What's up with the site being down?

Why has the site been down twice in the last week? Will it be working for longer than three hours this time? If I knew anything at all about the internet (besides it being made of tubes) I would try to help. But I don't, so all I can do is complain about it being broke.

Furthermore, I have an idea. I was reading all the Ogame blogs, and even looked up Ogame on Wikipedia. I don't want to play because it was invented by a German, and they couldn't even get world domination right, after trying twice! But I did an idea for an online game.

The game would be play similar to Final Fantasy Tactics, with isometric battlefields with different heights, obstacles, etc. The battlefields would be distributed in territories on a map. The map would have several large neutral cities, they could not be taken over, and serve as a spawn point for new players, a place to buy supplies, hire new soldiers, hold tournament battles, or simply a place to interact without killing each other. Outside the cities though would smaller cities and villages, fields, forests, rivers, and other terrain features. These areas could be taken over, either by defeating the computer controlled defenders, or if it had already been conquered, the human opponents. You could build a base and equip it with things like cannons for fire support in the battlefield, forges for creating new weapons and armor, and maybe teleporters for sending quick reinforcements. The money to pay for this would come from tributes collected from the territories you conquer, from merchants travelling trade routes between the large cities that happen to go through your territory, mines and other natural resources, and as a rewards for winning battles. Alliances could be formed between players, and items, soldiers, and resources could be traded or sold between them. Teams would be identified by a unique name, and the player could select their army's color, and design a small insignia that would appear over thier land.

There is one very big problem though. I don't have anything near the programming skills needed to do this. I have absolutly no idea how to do the online stuff. My graphics skill are slightly better, but not great. I not only have no music or sound skills, but not even the appropriate software. A game of this scale doesn't even seem practical for one person to make anyway. This idea seems to lend itself for a team effort. I really want to see this get done, I really want to be involved, but I do not know what I would be able to contribute.

Anyway, I'm really just tossing an idea out there right now. I'll try working at some, see what I can throw together. If you are interested, or have any suggestions, I would gladly accept them. Hopefully the site will be up long enough to get a response.

the bad part was the site being down when it was getting some publicity on the GMC as being on of the "Best GM" websites on that GM Awards topic.

Way to go!
