So it looks as if 64Digits has yet again escaped the clutches of death. Seems like a lot has changed around here and I gather it's all thanks to KaBob. So I guess all I can say is thanks. I never thought 64D would last this long… well I guess initially I assumed it would, but with each downtime it seemed less and less likely to bounce back up…. anyway how's everyone been?

I've had an amazing year, this is my last year of high school, and despite being full on it's been awesome. Highlights include getting so smashed that I woke up the next morning with an entire box of cornflakes emptied in my bed. Well maybe not so much highlights as… interesting-lights. It wasn't exactly fun at the time, but in retrospect it amuses me.

Various other things have happened that I can't think of off the top of my head/probably don't interest you much.

I've taken up running for some reason. We got a new dog about a year ago and I started taking him running, despite everyone calling me crazy I actually really enjoy it. I run about 15-20km three or four times a week, the best bit is I run with my iPod and listen to audiobooks, which sounds lame… but trust me, it's awesome :) especially when you're so bogged down with school work like I am now, it's nice to be able to get away.

Exams are fast approaching, which is both good and bad. Exams are inherently bad, but the good part is that school is almost over and summer is almost coming :D I basically plan to spend the summer working 3 days a week and partying down at my mates beach house the other 4.

Next year is still a bit questionable for me. I gather that the Australian system is a little different to the US one, but I basically have to decide what career I want to work towards before next year… and I have no fucking idea. I'm being pressured into engineering simply because I don't want to be a doctor or a lawyer and I have the grades for whatever I want. I started looking at a few robotics and mechatronics courses and they actually look awesome, but I have no idea what sort of job prospects are available. So what about you 64digiteers? What's your ideal (realistic) job?

kthxbye.

NiCK! :D

I want to be a programmer for a games company, possibly Sports Interactive because I love Football Manager so much :p

But at some point in my life I'd love to work for Google, too. Oh and MI5.

You have a picture of Clayman as your avatar and are therefore awesome.

EAGLY! :D

Working for MI5 or equivalent would be badass, but being a programmer would be cool too. I've been cautious about that industry because I think you'd have to get into the right sort of company if you want to enjoy it. I've heard horror stories about EA employees, and really I'd be worried that I'd be creating someone elses game and not my own. I'm not sure how much I'd enjoy programming without the associated creativity, but that's just me, I'm sure it pays well and if you love it, you'll love it regardless of where you're working.

Hey blackhole, I don't think you were around when I was frequenting 64D. But you recognize Claymen and are therefore awesome. The Neverhood is easily my favourite game ever. Did you know a movie is in production btw?

I'm new, blame Zaron for my existence. I saw something on wikipedia about a Neverhood movie but I thought it was in development hell.

SON OF A- *BANG* NOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo

I am a C++ graphics programmer and a psychotic furfag. Graphics programming is by far the job I want, but instead of job hunting I'm just starting my own company because I'm crazy.

I would suggest trying a few things and finding something that you keep coming back to over and over. That is your ideal career. Kind of like how I have to keep pulling myself away from my graphics engine so I can work on the actual game.

Get on IRC and you can read my rants about how the programming industry is retarded until your eyes explode.

Programmer, since I am studying computer science & engineering.

PS, I am C-Ator9, if my username was unfamiliar to you.

Hi Nick!

You mean 5km a time right, not 15-20km a time? That sounds crazy.

I want to be a Game Designer which I shall do by starting as a Game Programmer. Game Designing sounds easier and it pays better, and as we all know in life you unlock an achievement by earning money for nothing.

One day I shall work for Rockstar North or Valve.

Oh did you say realistic?

SixWinged 13 years, 8 months ago

sir Xemic, I definitely remember you, not sure I remember talking to you much… but you seem to know your maths, which is admirable :)

Hey Liam, I have a run that I like that's 16km long, which I do most days, longest I've done is just short of 20 and that was me sort of exploring… I had no idea how far I'd gone, just kept running kinda thing, if I'd known I would have pushed out the extra k and don the half marathon. Oh well, I'll get there again one day, some days i just feel like I can run forever while others are a real struggle.

Toast, game designing does sound very enjoyable, especially working for Rockstar/Valve, nothing wrong with being a tad unrealistic, we all have to have a dream right?

I'm under no illusions as to how hard it will be to find somewhere decent. I really don't want to work for someone like EA, I'd much rather work for a smaller company and earn less money. We're going to be applying for our placement years when we get back to uni soon, and a lot of people are looking at how much they will get paid for the year. I'd much rather work for a small company gaining experience in actually developing games in a live environment and get paid nothing, than be a tea boy for a larger company and get 12 grand.

I can't wait though, it should be a great experience.

I entirely agree with eagly, though I'm not going to apply anywhere yet. Still need to finish my last year in secondary school and then I'm (probably) going to study Computer Science where they focus on Game Development/Design.
