This is an archive, stream of consciousness style, devblog of my adventures trying to code up a game for the first time.

The Sound of Music

Back to the shorter updates. I revamped the audio today. Now you can control the volume, play/pause, and mute. I also paved the way for more audio selections. Right now, I only have the one track set in stone that I've talked about earlier. I'll embed it below so you can listen to it, and get a feel for how the game will sound. I don't know exactly where I'm going to be placing it in the game, as I've listened to it way too many times now (every time the game loads…).

I've also been cranking away at the levels. I completed a whole new one tonight! Yay me! I'm being productive. As long as I complete at least one level a night between now and Sunday, I should be on track to finishing this game by the deadline. I still have three more gameplay elements to code up, but both of those should be relatively easy. I still don't know how many levels I'm going to end up with for each Act, but right now 5 seems to be the golden number. With each level taking me 30s to complete, I wonder if there will be enough content.

I'm also thinking I'll need some testers to make sure that 1) the game actually works on a computer that isn't mine, and 2) is both fun and (mildly) time consuming. I'll call it a "demo". If anyone is interested in helping me out, let me know in the comments below. I'll have to go read up on packaging it. The system requirements are: Java 7+ with an OpenGL 2.0+ GPU. This is the equivalent of a potato, so there should be no problems with people running it.

Here's the track I mentioned, by the lovely Semaphore over at Newgrounds. It is titled Hope In Us. Let me know what you think.
