64Dare Contest Results

I'm going to do this before college eats me alive.

Best Gameplay: Alterality by Mega

Best Graphics: Alterality by Mega

Best Audio: Phantasmal Reverie by Kilin

Best Story: Yuri's Space Adventure by Ferret

Most Innovative: Phantasmal Reverie by Kilin

Best Theme Usage: Yuri's Space Adventure by Ferret

Best Overall: Alterality by Mega

You guys liked the contest but hated my judging criteria (even though it was nearly identical to Ludumdare, so I suggest you guys stay away from that). So, assuming anyone wants this contest to happen again sometime, how would you do it different, and how do you want judging to work?

Ferret edit: Check out the games here!

Congratulations, Mega. You were a worthy opponent. The whole thing was really a lot of fun.

I'm glad you posted the "best of" each category. That's a nice little ego boost.

WELP, BACK TO REALITY.

Great work everyone! :D

Congrats to Mega for winning and another congrats to Kilin because I thought your game was awesome too :3

Also you spelled my game's name wrong, it's Space Adventrue, sheesh.

Make it 64 days or 64 weeks next time and I might get around to making something.

Also, now that I know which ones are supposed to be good, I think I might actually play one or two of those games.

I think the criteria would work if you made it more clear how it would be judged. For example, missing criteria gives you 5/10 or something, or disqualifies you.

For a bigger group of contestants with a little more time, this criteria would work great. But many people were busy some or most of the days and couldnt get everything together in time which made it hard to judge with that criteria.

Good competiton, but unfortunately i was too busy that weekend to be able to join. :/

Cesque sure doesn't think so.

I sure don't think what, now?

Because I do think the criteria would be okay if there were more participants.

But since you can't really count on more than a couple of entries on 64digits, and if you still want to stick to the Ludumdarean idea of a fixed number of categories, I'd suggest simply reducing their number - something like Presentation (visual+audio), Fun/Enjoyability (gameplay+humour, maybe), Use of Theme (in both gameplay and story) and Overall.

Otherwise, I'd suggest just a simple "pick an overall winner" system with a single score based on how much you liked the game and how much it fit with the theme (kind of like our current Halloween contest). But like I said, that's less Ludum Dare-like, and that was your point, right, blackhole?

My main problem with the results of the competition is that… Alterality won, I guess. I really liked Alterality, but it didn't feel like it used the theme to a full extent (same for Yuri's Space Adventrue). Gigabit and Phantasmal Reverie incorporated it into gameplay itself, which I felt was more impressive.

Still, congratulations and all :P

Well yes, ludumdare style was my point, but you spent like 5 paragraphs telling me that was stupid.

Unfortunately, even if we had gone with your scoring system, alterality still would have won. It's average score over all categories was higher than everyone else. Blame the judges.

I don't think Cesque is attacking you.
