Late joiner

I was looking forward to this compo, but I haven't had time to do any actual work until today. And between moving apartment, going to work and doing Ludum Dare next weekend it'll be interesting to see if there'll ever be an update #2 ;)

I've had some time to think, though, and my idea is this: You're an alien agent infiltrating an unknown world full of debate-happy creatures whose point of view match their color. You'll have to find the matching color essence (or whatever) to see their point of view before you can litterally pick their brains and win arguments… e.g. at first you can only move around the red parts of the level and argue with the red guys, when you find the right color thingy you can then debate the green guys, etc. If I have time I'll make a boss with all three/four colours combined in his brain.

First person, movement is in steps as in old school dungeon crawlers (or Grimrock if you will), the brain picking a simple rotating puzzle, and hopefully I can find a simple way to generate random levels. I doub't I'll have time to make the opponents move, so they'll just be stationary obstacles. Plus, I have no time to make models or animate so everything is made of basic Unity shapes.

This is what I have so far:

A couple of simple guys, you can open their heads and have a look inside!

Small 'neurons' make up the brain picking puzzle, this all works so far. Puzzles are random and can check if you've solved them. I plan to add a timer to the puzzles representing the opponent's patience in debating you.

This is me totally winning an argument:

I still need to think of a name…

I thought you said "Brainpicker, Neural Flicker" and I was laughing for a while before I realized I read it wrong.

Brainpicker, Neural Flicker has my vote.

Hehe, all good. I might go with one those! Although I imagine it to represent a sort of debate and not actual flicking neurons around ;-)
