School Open Evening, Bowling and Free Jelly Beans

Posted by sinkhead on Oct. 4, 2006, 12:25 p.m.

So yeah, last night was the school Open Evening where the little year 6's can look around school. And I got asked to stay behind and show people the ICT Department.

It wasn't all that bad, but I've found out that there are 3 catagories of people (by the way I go to a free selective grammar school):

The I-don't-want-to-be-here-get-me-home-now type

These type of people just don't want to be here. They are un-attentive, often very tired and they are obviously only here because somebody forced them to. They also often do not care what their children want to ask, and many of them pull their children away from me while I am answering a question they have asked me. This can also work the other way around where the children are only there because their parents have forced them, and they try to pull their parents away while I'm answering a question. These people are usually not interested in ICT (or anything else for that matter). If the person of this type is an adult, the child will usually want to be here (see The kinda-too-serious type) and if the child is in this category, the adult is usually in the The kinda-too-serious type

The regular-just-right type

These people treat you nicely. They often talk informally and don't mind having a joke. They are not afraid to ask questions, and they are here because the parents and the children want to be here. They understand that I can only answer so many questions at once, and move on once they are satisfied.

The kinda-too-serious type

These people are even wors than the The I-don't-want-to-be-here-get-me-home-now type people. They often carry ominous looking notepads into which they write neatly into, and they often ask you to slow down speaking so they can write it down. They ask you question after question after question and don't seem to realise the queue into the ICT room is getting longer each minute. They talk formally and wear smart dress, their ties often get in the way of the screen. If the person of this type is an adult, the child will usually not want to be here (see The I-don't-want-to-be-here-get-me-home-now type) and if the child is in this category, the adult is usually in the The I-don't-want-to-be-here-get-me-home-now type

I hope you enjoyed that…

In other news, we were off school today (woo yay) so me and loads of my friends went bowling then we walked around town. I didn't win bowling, but I did get 64Score! I bought a foamy Halloween axe which I kept prodding people with. That was funny. Especially when I hit a random person with it who I thought was my friend but WASN'T…

What else can I blog about? Ah yes, I've been REALLY busy lately. I've barely been able to play my DS as I'm re-designing the SodaHertz website. More of a bug fix than a re-design really, because the code was really, really messy. When it returns though, you can expect a 'Hertz' system which allows you to earn points in a 'Hertz Activated' game, and spend them in the website or in other 'Hertz Activated' games. I've got some good ideas for that…

So that's about it really, I've caught up on lotsa stuffs I've wanted to blog about. Oh, one last thing. We found a picture of our school technician looking rather wierd on his flikr album. If you care to take a look, clicky.

We logged onto the SmartBoard and put that picture on full screen. About 10 people saw it before he walked into the room himself… He blogged about his experience on his blog. Please note that one of the comments on that particular blog was made by me but most of others were by other people a lot younger than me that helped me do it. Well, I say helped. Laughed along with me is closer to the truth. My good friend neon19 played a part too. Also, they have put the CHRISTMAS LIGHTS up on the street where my bus stop is. Christmas gets earlier every year…

So that's my life for you, I best get back to the new SodaHertz website…

- Sam

PS:

Hehe, nice little blog. Good to see something other than "I got up. Went to school. Came home. This was my day" type blog.
