Dwarves

Can you think of "jobs" or "positions" that a Dwarf race in a fantasy game would have? For example, an elf class in video games usually consist of various archers and magicians. Such as a hunter, ranger, huntress, spellcaster, mage, etc… What would you expect out of a Dwarf race? As far as I know, the typical axeman comes to mind. Maybe a spellcaster, but I think of the Dwarf race as a brute force type of character. Any opinions or ideas? Suggestions would be helping me out with a particular character class in a project.

Circus clowns? Door stops? Maybe even stepladders?

I hope that's creative enough. Actually, it's probably just racist.

Wine critics. I can see a bunch of Dwarves being drunks a criticizing wine.

Everything that's going to be said will most likely sound racist to a typical Dwarf.

Since dwarves are so associated with mining and living underground, here are a few. They're not exactly innovative, but if you wanted innovation, you probably wouldn't have gone with elves and dwarves.

This is specifically ignoring your more common stereotypes like having axes or hammers as the weapon of choice, and being mining/smithing fanatics.

Weapon: Spiked gloves, gauntlets, armblades, kusarigama (chain-sickles)

Magic: Geomancy, umbramancy, pyromancy

Profession: Archaeologist, historian, explosives expert, nuclear specialist

This fighting style is focused around very close-ranged combat, using their arms and fists as their main weapon, possibly augmented by blades attached to their arms. Magic is sensible as it takes their surroundings into account. And for professions, I largely imagine dwarves as being a self-sufficient race, with the ability to do whatever they need to, but maybe being underground with bones and artifacts would garner an interest in archaeology.

Don't they usually mine out deep, intricate cities? They are also well known for working in candy factories, they even have their own union or guild or something.

Anyways, the most I've seen of them is NWN, and they're usually just angry Scottish people who drink a lot and start fights. I'm not sure that's a job, though. They like beards, maybe they could be beard-barbers, or blacksmiths.

But I guess you're looking for a class. I dunno, I've always wanted to see a dwarf that rides a pig into battle with dual crossbow-gauntlets, which, if you didn't know, is a gauntlet with two little crossbows on it and I just made it up. That'd be like, four crossbows, and a pig. You can't say that's not awesome. Could probably fit another crossbow or two on his helmet, maybe even some on the pig. This guy could just obliterate anything in front of him with a volley of bolts.

The pig idea is awesome.

Sorry, it's a package deal, you have to take the ludicrous quantity of miniature crossbows as well, or no sale.

No. Crossbows that launch other crossbows.

Catapults shooting Dwarves armed with crossbows over a field of pigs.

Two dwarves with their beards tied together catapulting pigs into a field of crossbows (don't worry, they're soft crossbows).
