A world full of Pearls...

Posted by Jaakko on April 12, 2007, 7:10 a.m.

This is my next project: Pearl Dungeon online.

It's gonna be a MMORPG with Levels. XP, Inventory and all the other RPGish stuff. It would be nice if someone would like to help me with it, I'm not a very good pixel artist, I can't create music/sounds and so on…

I've heard that it's the most complicated thing to do with GM is a MMORPG, but it will not stop me! (*lol*)

I don't care if its going to take one week or two or a month, or maybe a year or two. I'll still work on it as my main project and I hope(*sigh*) you will like it…

If someone is interested, please tell me here or PM.

Well.. Start on the RPG first. Once you get it running, people would love to help you.

Make sure it works.

OK, I make the RPG first. I'm not really sure if I make it a platformer or overhead…

If you can't even decide something like that, perhaps you should start on something simpler. RPG's themselves aren't that easy to make, and require much patience.

much patience is an understatement!

I mean for a start you need a lot fo variables/arrays for a RPG to even take shape,

A full battle engine can have thousands of lines of code!

A large database worth!

and then there's graphics, music and sound, a RPG needs loads of them!

but if you're going to make a MMORPG you need even more variables, and really good knowledge of online coding, (basically knowing how to use a DLL like 39dll!).

Yeah, you're right guys… But I will try to do my best!

I give you an important tip:

First, write down rules for the game. You have played RPGs on computer or game console? Those have LOTS and LOTS of rules. Try to think that first. Like you were creating Pen-and-Paper RPG.

When you have all the rules on paper, THAT is a good start. :)
