Since gamemaker 5 was released, there have been many arguements going on in the Game maker fourums and on other flash sites.
The problem is there are more people using flash then they are gamemaker, and so, there aren't as many people to defend gamemaker.BUT… even though there are more people on flash than gamemaker the amount of n00b games on Flash and the amount of newb games on gamemaker is a totally different thing. WHY GM IS GOOD.1. Flash is harder to program than Gamemaker.2. Flash games are usually no more than tiny minigames. Gamemaker on the other hand, is created to maker longer lasting, more addictive games that take days to play and complete.3. The 3-d in flash is crap. No models. The best I've seen is the cubes in cubefield.4. Gm is way cheaper! Flash costs $150+ GM costs ony $20.5. Gm makes games that kick flash's ass in about 1/4 of the time it takes to make a flash game that can match a high/moderate quality gm game.6. Flash is buggy, the program itself is buggy and crashes all the time.7. Some people never figure out how to make flash games because it has no examples for begginers and not much help.Gamemaker is laid out logicly and has support for beginners.Those are the reasons GM is arugably better than flash.Also for all those who say gm can't be put on a browser you can use G-java, Its hard but it works.
Point 6 is sort of null - GM crashes too - its the programmer;s code that makes it crash.
Flash is different from GM - its vector-based, intended for animation originally.Apples to oranges.You can use G-java to make gm go through browsers.
G-java is hard to use though.I would agree with you on all your points but flash does have the advantage of being able to play through your browser. I myself only use flash to make simple web app's and banners.
.swf files are smaller too,but yes,GM is more centered on programming games than flash
Ace02, my point exactly!
@shadow yoshi
there are serial sites for gamemaker as wellbut look at those amasing anamations in flash!gm is batter for games, flash for anamations.Pretty much what DesertFox said sums it up.
Game Maker will never go on browsers. G-Java and G-Flash CONVERT the file, so it's not really GM.It all depends on somebody's opinion and what they believe is best.
Umm… Flash is good because it can do two things. And your comparing GM to a <i>function</i> that flash can do. If Actionscript was for menu's only, then why would you be arguing about games with it? Its hard to do, yes. But its addictive, and small, I've seen a lot of 3-D guns on flash, lots of things, not just cubes, and I know what you're deriving the cube thing from, thats <b>not</b> 3-D
