Danse Machina update 4

Posted by Malaika on July 23, 2006, 8:40 a.m.

Just a small update for Danse Machina. Good news and bad news.

The good news is I just finished sketching up the first part of the first level - the robotics base on Cabal IV. Its not quite as sizeable as I would have liked, but I suppose I could always fill it out a bit. At the moment its all bare essentials. Plenty of puzzles and things to keep you occupied, and about half a dozen story developments and twists - and its only the first level (not even!). Like I've said, the story is crucial to the game. I want people to play it through and think their favourite part was the storyline and characters. Not that th rest of the game doesn't kick arse!

Anyway, the first part has Gabrielle investigate the robotics base. Stuff happens, then the second part of the level will have Gabrielle and her partner fend off the pirates, and escape the base, where they will travel *somewhere* and more plot developments will happen, beginning the second level. I can't really tell you anything more, but suffice to say, I have finally made up my mind, and Danse Machina WILL take place in the Novastorm universe (if you don't know anything about it, don't worry, the introduction to DM will explain enough)

The bad news now…

…While I've done the level sketch, and just need to fill it out, but I've finally made a crucial decision about DM. I will be stripping the code back and redoing *most* of the game. That means the next demo will be some time away. Even longer now that I can only really work on it on weekends… Sorry, but it has to be done.

Long waits can some times have great rewards. I hope it turns out well.

Ugh. Not you too. ParadoxEquation's Ojamajo Shoot 2: VC was also recoded from scratch at one point.

Well, it's your decision. I really, really hope that it's worth it. Why is it necessary, btw?

Well actually both are good news if it makes coding the rest of the game easier/faster/ups the fps. You should save a backup .gm6 or two just in case.

BTW teh game is teh awesome.

Backups are good. And the reason I'm doing it is due to the confusion that the current code leaves me in when I try to use it :P

Some elements will stay, like the menu system and most of the player. Other bits, mainly the enemies and the weapons system, are being scrapped. They weren't properly coded to begin with. Hopefully it won't take me a huge amount of time.

Thats good. I was hoping you didn't have to really recode most of the game. Too much work… :P

Also, I'll be adding a little more scenery to the level design, and hopefully getting rid of the current wall sprites. If anyone can help out with wall tiles I'd be grateful :D

Recoding is always good.
