No squares with eyes here.

No, instead, I have something nearly as bad: A stickman.

Well, a temporary stickman until I come up with a better idea. I'm focusing on gameplay first, appearance later.

And that almost sums up what I'm working on…

The other two honorable mentions are a Megaman fangame I'm working on (For my youngest brother) as well as an unnamed and barely thought of concept. I'll post a sprite from both:

First, my new character, a dragon of sorts. Just note that this is an unfinished sprite, I'm just using it as a reference:

And this is the main character for the Megaman fangame, based off the Zero sprite from Megaman X3:

I told my brother that if I "have" to make him a fangame, I'm at least going to modify the sprites and make some semblance of a storyline. I'll see how far this gets.

In other news, I just found out that the book I WAS working on (The Game Maker 8 Cookbook) has been started again. The publisher is looking for an author. I'm kinda wishing I could get back into it.

I've put In a Word on the back burner (Since nobody likes games with squares for characters) and am focusing on my new projects, in addition to Eternal Castle.

Anyways, back to work.

I lol'd.

Anyways looks cool, and making something for someone you know can help push you to finish sometimes.

green stick game! =O

you know i uploaded a game that looks exactly like that too YYG? lol xD

looks like you got the curse as well, sticks and squares, you've done them both =P

Actually, I was playing yours in the early hours when I came up with this one. Kind of a ripoff (Graphics wise, anyway).

Is the dot-grid intentional or is it a result of that silly transparency pixel in GM7 and below?

death 13 years, 7 months ago

the transparency pixel wouldn't cause that to happen even if he had used all black tiles for that… it just wouldn't make any sense to anyway. clearly the background is black and the floors/walls are just straight line objects =P

i'm guessing he added tiles that have a single dot all over the place. that would get annoying laying that out xD

anyway it wouldn't be a "ripoff" because it's just an atari-like style, done years before we were born xD

Actually, those aren't sprites. The ground tiles and background tiles are all drawn using the Draw event and lines.

get rid of the spots on the blocks and replace them with some form of gradient, the spots are distracting.

Castypher 13 years, 7 months ago

@Deathzero: My comment was half sarcasm.

I agree with Moikle though. The little dots are distracting.

Mega 13 years, 7 months ago

Gradients huh?… Shouldn't be too difficult to code in. I can tell you the primary reason for the dots though: To join the seams between blocks. I'll work on that as soon as possible then.

Castypher 13 years, 7 months ago

I don't really think you need to show those seams unless the blocks are important to the gameplay. For example, if they shifted around and disappeared.
