After 3 years...

Well, I'm glad to see this website is still up.

It has been 3 years since I've visited. Now I'm feeling older. I do hope that everyone's programming hobbies are still going strong. Mine is sort-of, kind-of dead at this moment, especially since I'm enjoying summer right now, but it's not as if I don't know a lot, and that I don't want to pursue the Computer Science field in college. That's not the point. The whole point is doing what you enjoy.

I still enjoy programming, and even designing and creating games. However, now, my whole viewpoint on computers and software has changed drastically.

In 2008 my infamous game Debriz was only the beginning. I hope to make more, both 2D and "THREEE-DEEE" games that focus on some things that people will enjoy, such as you do, and not to necessarily make a profit from it.

To anyone who is reading this, I am stepping away from Game Maker. I am now confident I can read a few reference guides to C, C++, Python, etc… and perhaps get in to Web development. And since Game Maker costs money, and is proprietary software (if any of you know what the means), I am following the FOSS philosophy right now. I am using Debian Linux and (almost) only free and open source software. Software, and even games, are meant to be shared by the community, for profit or not. If not for profit, then under a Creative Commons licence.

But I think the tools (such as Game Maker) should always be free. Oh, and, you know, I swear, most people who try and make torrents/cracks of Game Maker have no clue what they are doing XD.

I will still be glad to mentor anyone using Game Maker. I'm sure everyone is familiar with the Game Maker Community Forums. I visit there sometimes to help novices. I am not quite the professional expert who knows as much as the guys in the Expert Forums–heck, I still always refer to the manual to make sure my code is correct–but I think once you start using only code in GM, then you should not really need much more help from others anyway.

Over 3 years, instead of learning as much as I can about programming, I seemed to learn much more about technology and life in general. It feels somewhat like my knowledge of programming has not been wasted, but simply held back. It does feel good to learn more and more new things on your own.

Hopefully my focus will be brought back to programming. To be honest, I didn't even want to make a blog, all I was going to do was change my e-mail since I don't use Yahoo! Mail anymore. Anyways, thank you for reading this passage.

He's lying! He's trying to lull you into a false sense of security so he can trap you in a dark alleyway and harvest your organs!

Cyrus, go back and study up on object polymorphism and inheritance. I think you are getting is-a relationships mixed up with has-a relationships again.

@Moikle

He logged in yesterday!

Also, I think that game maker would be worth its previous price of like… $25? if they include the update for compiling for mac, andrioid, ios, pc and html 5 this fall like they are promising. Also have better 3D support which would be nice to expirement with.

We have games? I thought this was a blogging community!

Alert Games 14 years, 6 months ago

Surprisingly enough, it is a blogging community.

Surprisingly and sadly so. Where's Darthlupi when we need him?
