I can't believe it still works! Then I can't believe I remembered my password from 20 something years ago. I forget all my new passwords all the time. But this one I remember?
I used to frequent this website as a teenager messing around with game maker and learned some programming. If anyone remembers me I was probably that annoying kid that people would avoid.I'm surprised to find still have some old files here. I remember dabbling with making a custom website to showcase my game-maker games, not sure where that went. But then on second though, I might die of cringe if I see it revived. Not sure what the plan is with 64digits, but, I though it would be fun to drop a post. What is 64digits anyways?Trying to google it doesn't reveal much. There is not much in the internet history about this website. Not much is written or recorded about this place. The best you can do is to way-back machine to get a sense of what it was.I do remember it as a place with some creative people hanging around. I think someone was making a game engine where you could write both GML, inline assembly and c++. What happened to that insane wizardry I wonder?Anyways, it would be cool to see this place going somewhere again. I'm quite tired of social media, and I'd rather have niche community forums and blogs.Be careful out there, we live in crazy times!See you next time!
Oh wow, a new post for once lol. Okay long story short, 64digits was an offshoot of the Game Maker community in the 2000s, similar to GMG. We were just a bunch of kids into game development. Later, we expanded into music and other forms of art as our talents and ambitions grew.
I would say the site had a really collaborative and healthy atmosphere up until 2012 or so. We had a great Minecraft server, and had lots of fun together. Around 2013, some really bad mods took over and the site got more toxic over time. I left in early 2016 over it. The site was kinda dead by then anyway.(Note: not bad people, just bad mods. The fact that two of them completely nuked their accounts, including *all* of their comments, testifies to this. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.)The site came back in July 2020 after a few years of being down. Though I wrote several blog posts that year, I couldn't bring myself to post any of them after the abuse that went on in the 2010s. So that's one big reason the site is dead - the mods just got really toxic. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.I think the simplest answer is we grew up, and grew apart. It's a shame cause I really loved this community. Here's a video someone made of our old MC server:
