I just wanted to say hi to everyone and that I am new to the community. However, I am not new to Game Maker. I have been using it since version 5.3a. I am probably one of the very few people that still use version 6, as I am not willing to be a part of the YoYo Games community. It's just too disappointing..
I'm still using GM7, haven't been able to afford GM8 yet.
I used version 6 for the longest time. Eventually I got my hands on a cracked GM7, then when I got a job I broke down and bought GM8.
The only reason I ever visit YoYo Games' website is to occasionally check their blog for news about new versions of Game Maker, such as the Mac version. We are a sane haven in a storm of idiocy. Welcome.
Everything is open to argument. Always review games. Create whatever you want. Post what you'd expect to read. Be honest; be brutally so.Except being brutally honest is Juju's thing. Anyway, welcome. We hope you enjoy your stay.
Welcome, Type!
I'm so old and hardcore that I thought the additions of paths and timelines to 5.0 were "cheating", and that I couldn't wait until I was old enough to pay to register it and support Mark.
(I wanted to say something like "I stayed with GM 4 rather than upgraded to 5 when it came out", but to be honest, I didn't, haha)I think upgrading is worth it, unless you're like me, and just too damn lazy.I used 5.3a after 6 came out, and then 6 when 7 came out, and then never used 7 or 8 because I haven't touched GM since 8 came out.Anyway, welcome to 64D. Beware the mind altering code that KaBob has been upgrading. o_oGM 7 removes the surface bugs from GM 6 that are a bit of a pain in the arse if you're doing anything clever. GM 8 makes merging files not shit. That's pretty much the run-down.
I would like to upgrade to GM8 sometime, mostly for the enhanced png support.
I had a nasty problem in GM7 (in my shooter), where after playing the game for a few minutes, it would crash, and not bring up an error. Objects would fail to initialize correctly, and creation events would vaporize.
However, upgrading to GM8 mysteriously solved the problem.I haven't used GM since 6.0 - go learn other languages like me :D
