Bloggability? naaaw... some Blender stuff, though

Hey!

Figure it might be worth it to keep a blog/journal of my blender stuff. Been using it for just under a year. I am a game developer based in western Canada. I work with a startup company called Fireskies Studios. Here's to a rich three dimensional journal of Blendering…

I played around with a displacement modifier to give it a bumpy surface and texture as well as the remesh modifier to give it that cubish look, and then layered a slight blur over top of the solid image.

As for the rest… I've been an avid user of 64digits for ages. In fact I still have stuff on here from when I was using Windows 98. I went through some of my stuff from way back when, and admittedly it was quite a trip. Pretty stoked about the bloggability though.

Wow you've been here a while. XD

Nice rendering. Is it for an actual game, or just just for fun?

That was just for fun… I spent a grand total of about 2 minutes on it at the end of a meeting :P … My buddy told me it reminded him of the companion cube :).

My first thought was 'is that a giant cube of legos?'

then I thought 'giant minecraft cube?'

Then I read the blog. Pretty awesome for 2mins in Blender.

Not to be a downer, but there's a plugin that can do that in about 5 seconds, depending on complexity. Tesselates the faces you've selected in that way.

Just out of interest, how long did it take to render that? Good indicator of your PC speed, rendering complex geometry.

That's instantly what I thought of! A charred weighted companion cube.

Proof that Portal had some badass PR and marketing.

Could you think of anything else?
