F4D Progress (if you can call it that)

So I was working on my game pretty much all day Saturday, took yesterday off because I was busy, and then worked on it some more during my lunch hour and free period at school today, and plan to get working on it again now.

On to the status report!

So, I mentioned in my previous post that it's sort of like a shmup, but focused on dodging rather than shooting (you can't actually attack, which is making boss fights hard to design). So my working title is Winter Rush, and it's basically about the character running around for various stupid reasons and for some reason is being attacked by every other kid in town.

The core engine is working, as are 2 enemies, 2 stage hazards and 3 pick ups.

I'll add in more stuff as I think of it, but for now, the two basic enemies are:

Throwers: Stand in yards and on sidewalks throwing snowballs at you which kill you because they have rocks in them for no apparent reason.

Rollers: Are moving in the opposite direction inside the playing area (the middle of the street because that's the safest possible place) rolling big snowballs in front of them. Running into them also gets you killed.

Stage hazards include:

Patches of Ice: Not dangerous on their own in any way shape or form, but they make you lose control and you keep sliding in whatever direction you were going when you hit them, which can cause you to get hit by other things.

Open Manholes (as in sewer access things you dirty minded sickos): Running over these makes you fall in and lose a life, obviously.

Pick ups (you can't pick up duplicates, they just replenish your stock and overflow will be converted into points if I add in a scoring system):

Trashcan Lid: Serves as a shield that will block x snowballs (I haven't decided on the final amount yet, but right now it's 3) before becoming too cold to keep carrying and is dropped. You will also drop it if you run onto a patch of ice, as you need both hands to balance yourself and not fall down.

Derp Co.'s Patented Ice-B-Gone Spray: Rather self explanatory, will melt any patches of ice you step on. Each can has enough spray for 3 uses, and triggers automatically.

Manhole Covers: Automatically covers up the next open manhole you hit, letting you run over it. Single use only for obvious reasons

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand that's it for now. I haven't started working on music yet, and while I do have some sprites done, they'll probably be redone or at least touched up because they look like crap and I am so totally proud of my spriting skills.

the number of strikethroughs in this blog makes me happy for some reason but that trashcan lid sounds like fun

Thanks for the mental image, pounce.

While I'm not that disturbed because I've seen much worse I'm still not too fond of having that in my head for the next hour or so.

I was asking for a screenshot in the most ridiculous way I could xD

Gosh, you guys really shouldn't go into any city maintenance jobs if you can't stand the idea of sewers…:P

WTF DaggerHog? I'm sure we don't wanna know what you've seen, then…*shudders*

This blog is suffering from severe overuse of strikethrough

Needs more of this
