BlueHost and a Hovercraft at Last!

Posted by bendodge on Nov. 2, 2006, 12:40 a.m.

I finally got my new hosting, and it is awesome! (Of course, I paid three times as much…) I have all the old stuff set up on the new server, and I just love cPanel, which I didn't have before.

Quick Calc is skinnable now, and the skin mechanism is quite powerful, IMHO. It is the most complex thing I have ever written, but it seems stable.

I hope to set up no-strings-attached file hosting for GM users, and maybe a public FTP or something. What do you think of the idea of a GMC chatroom, or has that crashed and burned many a time?

My brothers and I bought a RC hovercraft, and it is pretty neat. It is Made in China, so it is already being repaired. But I think it is just a lose wire. Maybe I'll post a video of it, when I get around to it.

eBay is also good for some stuff (please buy from audiv8q if you do and you see him, that's my dad and buying stuff from him = money for him = stuff for me :P)

Hehe. I went with BlueHost becauase I think 1and1 is too cheap to be reliable. High-quality storage cost about $1 a GB, so I am skeptical of something that offers more storage than my bill.

Looking at 1and1's Home package vs BlueHost

No SSI

10 FTP, vs 1000 with anonymous

25 vs 50 MySQl databases

2000 vs unlimited Email aliases

No Ruby or Ruby on Rails

No CGI

1000 vs 5000 email, and bluehost has secure POP3 IMAP

No PostgreSQL

I compared with 1and1's home package because the next one up is more expensive then BlueHost
