Xbox One = 359 steps back.

That Xbox reveal was underwhelming to say the least. Used game fee? Forget about it. They're going to see that's a mistake. In fact, during the reveal, Nintendo and Sony saw an increase in their stock value, while Microsoft took something of a fall on theirs.

No backward compatibility, the TV supposedly requires a separate device to do it, and you have to pay a fee to authorize use of a game on another console. If that isn't digging a grave for a console, I don't know what is. I see no reason to not get a PS4 instead, other than the fact that it's not backward compatible either, and I still want a PS3 for a lot of JRPGs I've missed out on. Maybe even the Wii U will go places in a year, and it'll find success, like the 3DS did (I got my 3DS a few months ago, and I absolutely love it).

EDIT: So, that's where all the applause was coming from:

EDIT AGAIN: From a Kaz Hirai parody Twitter account, proof that the PS4 is better.

What are your thoughts on this upcoming generation?

If XBL is free (none of this gold shit), I might overlook the other glaring flaws.

during the reveal, they did say the halo tv series will require a platinum account to view for it free.

That's the closest thing we have to an answer so far. Judging by the name change from gold, there could be a free option to play online(hopefully).

Live is already free with a Silver membership, and so obviously you'll have to pay something to obtain this 'platinum account', right?

i'm assuming, yes.

Well, what I meant by free is exactly what sony is doing with the playstation platform. Free multiplayer and access to other online services.

Playstation is a shifty one, because in order to even play certain demos on the PSN store, you have to be a Playstation Plus* subscriber, which costs far more for 3 months than XBL does. What it does give you for free is MP, but the servers are iffy at best and vary between games, therefore you're not given a consistent experience. Trust me, I know, cause I own both systems.

So the question between the two is would you rather have free quantity (and pay for extras), or pay for quality?

*PS Plus subscribers do get free games and/ or free DLC though once in a while, and access to special offers, so that's pretty cool.

EDIT: That's between the current gen though, as for the new gen. Fuck Microsoft all kinds of ways. I didn't wanna say it, but I'm kinda shifting my attention to the PS4 now, but only a little bit. The rest is on PC like it should be.

You obviously need a cable receiver for those TV features to work. It's literally otherwise impossible. I have a logitech revue and it has most of the TV features and they're actually pretty fucking great. Shows you what movies are playing currently, what shows are playing currently, what shows are coming up, etc. It's pretty fucking fantastic.

So in conclusion: just buy a new video card instead.

Haha, I've been making that 359 joke ever since it was unveiled. Looks like the Xbox One's going down about as well as Windows 8.

I don't really know enough about any of them to make a completely fair judgement. I own a PS3 and PS2 myself (I really love PS2), but I'll admit – not very excited about the PS4, and that's probably due to no new games interesting me.
