Easy Adventure Maker

Posted by Azix220 on July 9, 2008, 11:05 a.m.

Hello, I am new to this site, but have been aspiring to make a game for years now.

Every attempt at creating is thwarted by ridiculous amounts of code that make my eyes bleed by even looking at the screen.

Does anyone out there know of a good Adventure Creator that's easy to use?

More specifically, to create a Zelda Like clone?

I can condense your blog if you like?

'Hi I'm new and want to make a game.

I don't know code, and don't want to learn.

Is there anything that can make making a game really easy.

Preferably someone gives me a game and I put my name on it, because I don't want to put any effort in myself'

You're looking for Stencyl.

It's never easy in this life.

yeah, unfortunately if you want to actually create a game you're gonna have to understand the 'ridiculous amounts of code'. Especially if you want to create such a complicated genre. Try making a platform game, learn how to use code and take it from there.

GW is right. Also, by using an 'adventure maker' Wouldn't it feel like cheating?

What are you using right now? Game Maker is easy, the only thing I would think might be easier would be as you said, a dev tool designed specifically for adventure games of that particular style. I'm sorry to say I have found nothing of that sort in all my searches for dev tools though. If that's the kind of game you're making, I'd just go with Game Maker, unless you'd rather go learn C++.

Without wishing to patronise, I'd suggest you maybe start off with an extension or something and work from there instead of jumping in at the deep end.

Also, on a personal note, these guys are being assholes. Come on! Where's the community spirit?

First, PY. You are a troll. I'm new to the site, not to the internet.

Also, I have tried to learn programming. It isn't my deal. It's pretty bad when someone can bearly understand how to pass the "Hello World" to a different method.

That ^ confuses me. So, I dare say, I can never be a programmer.

I want to design video games, not program. So, where do I start?

Thank you.

Repeat after me: "I am not a moderator. I am not a moderator. I am not a moderator."

You start by becoming a programmer first. No one will make games for you.

Sorry, mate, I'm telling you how it is.

If you can't get hello world, you need to step back and look at it, not think 'Oh I guess I can't do it'.

You want to design games, but not put any effort into it?

Game maker isn't your thing, that's for people who want to make games.

Try The Games Factory, a small monkey can do it.

And an IRC quote (Feel free to come in)

8 Don_Hertzfeldt: People don't seem to get that programmers don't like making free games for other people.
