The Firefly

Lampyridae is a family in the beetle order Coleoptera, members of which are commonly called fireflies, lightning bugs or (ambiguously) "glow worms" due to their conspicuous nocturnal (or, more accurately, crepuscular) use of bioluminescence to attract mates or prey. Fireflies are capable of producing a "cold light" containing no ultraviolet or infrared rays, with a wavelength from 510 to 670 nanometers, pale reddish, yellowish or green in colour, with a lighting efficiency of up to 96%.

There are more than 2000 species of firefly found in temperate and tropical environments around the world. Many species can be found in marshes or in wet, wooded areas where their larvae have abundant sources of food.

fascinating isn't it? Yeh so i decided to do some reasearch on the Firefly since i've been calling myself one for years now without really knowing much about them. Quite interesting how a creature can generate such a bright light like that.

Ok since you most likely didn't read that please read the rest of my blog below :)

Gamemaker

Haven't worked on my circus of Doom game for a while since i was having trouble with the enemy AI so i'm currently having a break from GM. I do have a plan for a future game though. When i say the future i mean probably about a year or longer. Anyway i plan to make a sims like game where you may construct your own house and you get your own car and stuff. This game will be multiplayer too. That is now my main goal for gamemakr to do that game. It will take work and time but i hope to accomplish it since my 3D and multiplayer ability is improving.

Staticfire

Nothing new to report except i've broke it trying to implement my own coding language. I was tired of doing the sidebar box code so i made a system where if i type:

{sidebar:title=Whatever}Stuffs in the box{/sidebar}

it will draw up a sidebar in 1 line of code rather than 30! Real timesaver. I also made various other things like:

{mysql:connect}

Rather than doing the connection code every time. And:

{ajax:XMLHttpRequest}

creates the function necessary for catching the data that is returned by the server in one convinient line of code.

Once i get this coding system setup properly making the site will be so much easier but untill then don't bother going on it because i can't be bothered fixing it right now.

College

No programming teacher for 5 weeks now!! What the hell happened to him to make him stay absent for that long!! So we got some cover teacher who doesn't know anything about programming so decides to spend 45minutes talking about some crap that wasn't even related to the course then giving us his life story but people in the class complained so we don't have him now we have yet another teacher who also doesn't know any programming. It's a good thing i program a lot a home because i'd have no chance of passing when we aren't even being taught :o

64digits

It seems that the staff are very inactive lately. Fsx is nver around and i've noticed that Jake and Melee don't seem to visit often anymore. DF seems to be the only one doing anything at the moment and as for V3… well i'm not even going to mention it because the subject is exausted now :p I feel as if the users don't get enough say in what happens with the site and i feel that we should since without us there wouldn't be a community here. Now i seen quite an interesting idea which phazon yoshi suggested that we make this site opensource and allow users to work on parts of the code. Obviously don't go giving everyone FTP access but just send parts of the code to people to work on. That way the site will be done a lot faster and i'm sure that there are some skilled web designers out there who are better at coding than the 64d staff but don't get the chance to do anyhting.

Stuffs

My weight keeps going up every day as usual but i now only take 4 steroids a day where i was taking 8 a month ago. I'm coming off the steroids now but i have to slowly decrease them as it's dangerous to just stop. I still have to drink a pint of the worlds most disgusting nutrient drink every day but as long as i keep gaining weight i don't mind. I don't feel so ill anymore which is good because a few months ago i felt like dying.

Hey, SY, I was in college classes at 15, and I could've been at 14. Yes, I still attended high school, but it doesn't mean I can't take college classes at the same time.

@Firefly: So, do you pay for your own college or what?

Nathan 16 years, 5 months ago

college in england is different from college in America, it is basically the last two years of high school. However in england you can LEGALLY drop out of school at 16 and going to college is considered "Higher Education" as you don't HAVE to go, of course if you don't go you will almost certainly struggle to get a job let alone a decent job, or in my case if you do go and do no work you will still struggle just as much!

@Kilin - HTML and CSS are markup languages - they do not actual calculation and manipulation of data. However, PHP is very much so a programming language.

steriods is bad for you. You'll probably grow boobs

@Shadow Yoshi: Regardless of your evaluation, the classes I take <i>are</i>, indeed college classes, meaning they are counted toward my college credits. And you are wrong. They are not advanced placement. They are COLLEGE. Do some research on the early college program, all right? Yes, such a thing exists.

Or perhaps you consider English 1010 a simple extension of high school classes? Look it up in any college catalog.

Say what you want. I'm probably no smarter than you, but my school has advantages to it. If you choose to only think of it as college after you're 18, then you're wrong, but if that's your logic, it's your logic. No use arguing.

@Desertfox: Oh, right, hence PHP's close resemblance to C++? That's why I found it easier to understand. =/

Castypher 16 years, 5 months ago

Actually, Shadow Yoshi, I about mentioned that. I deleted it for some reason. Huh…

Well, that's the point of an AP class. This is when you work your way to the top of a specific section (e.g. math, spanish). However, AP classes aren't the same as an actual college class.

And why? Becuase I definitly think of college for people who have an intelligence level of 18 or older.

Just becasue you are 16 does not make you smarter.

I understand you call it college for some strange reason, but there's my logic for you.
It is college. In Europe (or at least, in the parts I've lived in) most kids attend school until they're ~16. From there, they can either take up an apprenticeship or attend college.

Wait… why not? Because you're not taking the class in an actual college? It's a college level class that you can get college credit for. Seems like a college class to me…

Castypher 16 years, 5 months ago

@Polyman: Well, I guess it really depends. You're taking a class usually on a high school, accelerated level, then you take a large test at the end. I was in an AP Spanish class, but since it was taught by a high school teacher (as many, NOT ALL, AP classes are), it was pretty easy…besides the test at the end.

But you're right. They can count as college classes, but they have no course name or number, yet you get credit for it.

They're not the same, but they're not entirely different.
