Detailed Normal Mapped Model

Posted by Indecom4000 on Nov. 28, 2007, 6:01 p.m.

Here i'm going to show you, the model that i showed you before, exactly as you saw it last time, then i'm going to show you the exact very same model again, without a normal map to prove to you that i's not just some really high poly model, but in fact a very high quality normal mapping job.

Now here are two shots of that same model, one with a wireframe overlay, and one smooth shaded.

I'm tired of arguing about what to call this so, for the sake of political correctness, i'm just calling it detailed. Although on the other forums i've posted this, nobody has a problem with me calling it next gen since they actually know what i'm talking about. But for you, i'm calling it detailed. So can we stop arguing about it?

Yea, i'm releasing it at many places, i just figured i'd let you guys in on it too. But at 30 dollars for that character, textured and animated, along with 3-4 other characters and some scenery, its a freaking steal, anyone who'd pass up a deal like that must have something wrong internally. And if you dont like this pack, i'm doing more, so. whatever.

I see no textures, nor animation. I see no use of technology that wasn't available and in-use two years ago. I see no next-gen.

Normal maps are next gen :P

I would definitely buy the entire pack (I suggest putting a price tag of $40 or upwards on it) especially if you've skinned it onto some bones :)

@flashback, its a wip, as you should be able to tell. Its meant for next gen games, though the technology has been around longer, that is its intention.

It will be skinned and rigged to some bones, it will be animated and textured. Like i said, its a wip, i've only been doing this character for a little over a week, with breaks in between modeling sessions.

Okay so let me get the story straight, you are planning on selling these models to us? That puts a whole new spin on things.

dude, what the hell, i'm working my ass off to make these models, which are "next gen capable," so that no one here has to do it themselves

No, you're doing it so you can make some money.

Quote: Indecom4000
Why dont you guys grow the hell up and recognize when someone is doing you a favor.

Wrong, you're not doing anyone a favour. If anything, we'd be doing you a favour by buying your models from you.

Anyways, if you guys fail to appreciate what i'm trying to do for you, i can just refuse to sell them to anyone on this community, because right now it doesnt look like you guys want them anyways.

Again, you're not doing this work for us. You already said you're releasing it in lots of places too. It's hillarious how you can come out with "i can just refuse to sell them to anyone on this community" as if everyone is going to be throwing their money at you for this. That's completely the wrong attitude to go about business.

i reserve the right to be upset, no one choses to be grateful for my services, then you wont get any of my services. Its a shame really.

Wow, that's arrogant. Again, nobody has to be grateful for anything from you if you're going to make them pay for it.

So, i'm not releasing the pack here, You've all clearly shown that you dont want it.

Which is probably correct. I mean, you know yourself that this community is "populated with children". You know the average GM user. They have no means to pay you. That and the majority of GM users would have no use for your fancy models as few have the skills to put them to use. So you're not going to make any money out of this community or similar for your models.

In the end, stop whining.

That's some very nice bumpmapping. The vambrace on the right arm is a little iffy, but great work.

I'm a 3D modeller too, by the way. What program are you using?

Awesome.

you dont need to worry anymore, i've changed the name from next gen to detailed. I was being nice when i decided to announce the models on here. And i could really be charging way more than $30 for the whole package. I know of other people who make crappy models in comparison to mine, and charge up to and beyond $300 dollars for just one. I know that there arent many people here who could use them, i wasnt planning on making a gigantic profit off of this site, the only people here whould could use these models are the ones who have registered gm, which means if they can register that, they have the ability to pay 30 for a big collection of textured animated characters, which are royalty free for whatever purposes they would need. I'm not out to make a huge score, i'm simply proving to myself that i can create good game content, while making not even close to minimum wage off of them.

Indecom4000 18 years, 3 months ago

Oh, i'm using Blender to model them, and zbrush to make the normal maps.

Gamer3D 18 years, 3 months ago

ZBrush is too expensive for me.
