Anonyma {3D RPG}

Posted by Mikmacer on May 17, 2007, 11:51 p.m.

I decided one week ago to transform my biggest project( Anonyma ) in 3D. I am now working to transform all my 2D code into 3D code and its not that hard. The result is better than what i expected one week ago because i tought that the 3D graphic could not be better than what a Nintendo 64 can do but Ive maked something a little bit better. The only bad thing is that the texture are a little bit repetitive but I will surery found a solution soon.

<b>GOOD NEWS:</b> I found someone who can make all the characters graphics so I can create now a fully customised game! And maybe the music will be composed by a talanted guy^^

Or just keep it 2d… 3d isn't always better than 2d.

Sometimes staying retro and 2D is better than 3D, and GM is mainly for 2D anyways.

I prefer the 3D, with the Z-axis.

Needs to either stay 2D, or successfully make the transition to 3D (everything is 3D)

Tip: Don't listen to bjozzi - he doesn't know what he's talking about. He is of the type that believes that 3D is better no matter what.

Some games belong in 2D, some belong in 3D. It all really depends. A game should either be designed for 2D or 3D from the start. Keep in mind that GM has limited capability for 3D, so there will be performance issues.

Now although your textures are a bit repetitive, you can fix that easily. It really all depends on what you feel. Don't make it 3D simple for the sake of it being 3D. If you feel it being 3D will add to it's value, then make a full, utter, and complete transition to 3D. If not, keep it in 2D. Do not underestimate how nice 2D graphics can look. You can also have a lot better effects in 2D. 3D adds another axis of movement, allowing for more freedom, too, but there is a tradeoff in which you must deal with the extra complexity.

Think carefully about this.
