The Most In-Depth GM Racing Game! *1 new pic*

Posted by Misconstruct on May 18, 2008, 8:23 a.m.

So, I'm working on a small little project currently going by the moniker, "GT2D", is going to be one of the most in-depth racing games ever made using GM.

I'm aiming for 15+ tracks and ~100 vehicles in the final version.

Anyway, I don't have a whole lot of info ready for giving at the moment. I've been thinking about making this game for quite a while, but only now (today, in fact) have I started work on it. I've got the rudimentary physics down, and currently I'm just wiring up all the pieces of the game together as well as adding new cars and making new tracks.

(Alcohol apparently does wonders for motivation.)

Here's some screens of what I have so far:

Stay tuned for more details. I've put a lot of thought about the layout of the game and how it progresses. I've taken heavy cues from the amazing Gran Turismo series, as well as a few original but lesser known racing titles, such as Sega GT 2002. In fact, the layout of the game is a hybrid of Sega GT's super-straightforward layout and GT's somewhat scattered layout.

sure but mine being 3d does make it more realistic, but ofcourse harder to program XP

A while back, I was tinkering with making a 3D racer. Had too much difficulty obtaining suitable car models, tho. I can't model worth a damn on my laptop. lol

I'd love to see some of your game, though. How far along are you?

I love the collision blocks.

Btw, the car brand labels seem to clash a bit too much with their tablets.

@ Kilin

I know! The collision blocks are sexy. As for the labels clashing with the tablets… I don't really see it. I think it looks good. :P

That screenshot on the bottom makes the cars look microscopic, scale down the background! XD

Many different graphic styles going on. If you can get good physics down, then I'll be happy. Work on quality over quantity, though. ~100 cars is only good if they don't all have the same physics.

looks good, but the background makes it look like the tracks are floating.

hmm… the icons on the first pic seem to have some green near the edges, I think you should fix that.

What's wrong? You guys don't like my gigantic, genetically-engineered grass? :(

lol… don't worry, it'll be fixed. The final game will have a consistent look to it.

And SquareWheel, I'm going to try my best. It's difficult balancing all the cars to where none encounter any extreme difficulties going through a track, and yet have them all behave noticeably different. I don't know if I'll be able to make all 100 cars behave totally unique, since it's a 2D racer anyway. But again, I'll try my best!

With the cars, if your using good physics that is, you should be able to come up with enought unique combinations. It will take a while though.
