Where do you buy drugs?

Cause my doctor says I need allergie tablets lol. Not really.

K Im working on becoming a profesional level designer. I was looking at photoshop and its 600+ bucks :O. But I have an old version and I hear you can have an old version upgraded for pretty cheap.

Then I was looking through the 3D tools Id have to use, and I see 3DS Max… 3500+ bucks. I dont feel liking buying that. Any one know of a tool pretty similar to 3DS? Anim8or's too basic… there is blender, but I tried it on an older PC and it worked like junk (Mai PC).

So any way, please answer my question. Tanks.

You could always do what everyone else on the internet does and just download the software from other people. [:P]

Or you could try The Gimp, a pretty nice (and free) Photoshop substitute.

For 3d, use Gmax, not quite as good as 3ds, but its alot better than Blender. Autodesk dicontinued it, but its still avalable at http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax

find a good .obj plugin and it works alot better than Anim8or.

I've been using GIMP for a couple of years now, and I have to say that its awesome. In fact, I like it's interface better than Adobe Photoshop's. You can do just about everything in GIMP.

Of course, it ain't as powerful, but you won't notice unless you're doing some seriously hardcore stuff. Besides, it's completely free.

If you can't use Photoshop, use GIMP. I haven't used it myself, but I've heard nothing but good things from it. I was lucky, my dad had access to a free copy of Adobe CS, so I'm sorted - without having to pay a cent. :)

There's quite a fair few modelling applications out there. Blender should be able to get the job done for learning 3D design.

If you're looking for experience in level design, go check out the Unreal and Source Engines, make a map or two. It's a cheap way to get some experience with the area without a great deal of work… plus, you know, you've got the games to play as well.
