Old post, use newest page with submission info for all competition discussion:

Seeing as new members are consistently posting short blogs in the RA along the lines of "I am making an RPG like somethingorother kthxbai", I've decided to satisfy their urges here. To clarify, blogs in the RA (the Recent Activity Feed, in the right sidebar) must be longer than a few sentences, unless you're posting some other media (pictures/music/videos/games). You are also not allowed to blog in the RA more than once every 24 hours.

You can talk about initial ideas or progress here, unless you have enough to talk about to make your own blog. You are not required to post your progress, this is simply to keep the RA free of pointless blogs.

As RPG4D entry is nearly closed and the page has a bazillion comments (over 1000?), we'll also phase out the original page and use this page for any further discussion of the competition, until I open submission at the start of July.

When will we get to know how to share/upload/host our entry games? It's just a little more than a month left (when we take Midsummer out of the mix, it's a really big holiday in Sweden so I'll likely not get much programming done there) so it'd be nice to hear about it.

Is the 64Digits uploader fixed yet?

Progress-wise, I've nearly fixed the menu system for my game (the battle menu is done scratch the loot gauge, and now I'm focusing on the pause menu). I've gotten really jealous on all RPG Maker users, because if I'd been using RPG Maker I would've had those systems for scratch. On the other hand Game Maker lets you do anything you want. (I've written my own code interpreter for cutscenes just because I could, for instance, and it nets me a lot less frown than execute_string() would) I think I'll try to get a Nasu minigame (Yume Nikki reference) in somewhere… except the game takes place in the middle ages so I can't sneak a NES in anywhere.

Submission will open on July 1st (or 2nd), I'll give all the details then.

I don't think the game uploader is fixed yet, I hope it's fixed soon. It would be nice to have it working for the competition entries (hint hint hint hint hint hint hint)

Heh. I have a small pile of notes and sketches on my desks and a basic engine. Finished my last exam yesterday (oh fuck, it's 2am, ok then the day before) Just got a couple of things to clear up, then it is go time

Sneak preview of my soon-to-come update post. Much to tell everyone.

Gwoshy! Riley & underlings, you're quite good with graphics.

MMORPG style, though, which is not a personal favourite of mine since I don't play MMORPGs. Am I the only one making a 16-bit style tactics j-RPG? Most entries I've seen seem either like single-player MMORPGs or metroidvanias.

Hmmm. You can take my name off the list.

My family and I started designing an RPG just days before the competition started, which means I came in with only some written pre-design-document kind of stuff, and we figured this would be an excellent opportunity to learn and have fun and all that, but alas, we've just had way too much real-life stuff going on, and we'll have to bow out.

But fwiw, we've not at *all* given up on this game. We'll just do what we had *originally* planned: make a game for the fun of it, preferredly making it monetizable, without regard to any competition.

I do hope the best for everyone else's efforts! $:^ ]

Yaru: We were going for jRPG influence, if that's any count to you, heheheh.

This was my last ditch attempt at creating something and I'm giving up now.

Till next time I guess. Halloween compo maybe?

Would have replaced the tiles and made the hero an actual frog.

meh…

Dude, I'd take some RPG Maker games.

At least they're entries.

I will play the hockeysticks out of that, MMORPGguy.

Also, if anyone has noticed, Taizen has been depressingly absent for a month. I haven't heard from him in a few weeks. Things are looking grim for our competition entry, since I've been using his absence as a reason to procrastinate.

I caught him on Twitter the other day, and a little bit on YouTube way back. Like, a few weeks ago.

But those two instances of activity are the only ones I've seen from him lately.
thank you for not sharing what my twitter update was

Yeah, I did notice, mostly because I knew that when he came back, he was going to ask about it.

…But in all seriousness, I wonder what he's doing lately. It's summer after all.

Oh, I didn't notice this. Hahaha!

I didn't ask, now did I, Kilin?
