So I've been working pretty damn hard on a new game, and I've been waiting to release it. It's an NES-inspired game that's currently called MechWarsNES. Yeah.
In any case, it's a pretty sweet little start to a series of games that I intend to sort of pay tribute to the old(ish) game systems over the years. I'd have started with something like the Atari but I really couldn't have figured out how to make a game like this work out how I would want it to work out. Sure I've got ideas but.. I dunno. In any case, there's not much here to IMHO warrant placing this game into the actual WIP section. All there is so far is a single level with barely any enemies, and an empty boss room. Last attempt to post something so incomplete didn't seem to go over nicely with the moderators; I'd rather not push my luck so early on and besides, I'd rather post an 'official' demo when I've got plenty to show. I plan to post this over on gamejolt and elsewhere soon but for now I'll probably just post this on here and the GMC.Screenshots below. Download link below. I hope you all enjoy! ;PDL LINK: http://files.64digits.com/anthonyloprimo/MechWarsNES%20Prototype.zip
Thanks. It's been a heck of a time getting this put together while I've been stuck working my regular job. D: Not fun.
This is brilliant. It's been a long time since I've enjoyed a good NES-styled game but I have to tip my hat to you. The graphics are great, the music kicks ass, and I really enjoyed that little easter egg you left in the second stage's fourth screen.
10/10, looking forward to more.Really well done.
Had some issues with my Windows 3.1 system, but on Windows 8.1 it's a glorified nerd-fest of gameplay, graphics, and music. We need more things like this.as for someone who played Xevious obsessively enough to know NES style graphics, this is 10/10. also reminds me of Blaster Master, except in 3/4th view.
Okay, so you guys actually went with it pretty well. Sweet :3
Anyway, I do hope to get a real demo out soon. Not quiiiite sure when I'll be able to though.I read the title of the blog and was like "Oh, another competition entry that has taken the theme too literally", then I was like "What? This is awesome!"
Recent events and full time work is making any competition quite unlikely for any length of time I'm afraid, so it's only a coincidence this game follows any kind of 'theme' that the competition has. I've been wanting to do a few games that follow the feel, look and sound of old(er) retro games over the years - hell, I've been considering doing an Atari version of this but.. I've got no idea how to portray it, and are there any controllers that have more than just 4 directions and a button? Not quite sure of the limitations on it.
