64wrimo: Base Camp

Posted by F1ak3r on July 1, 2013, 7:53 a.m.

While http://campnanowrimo.org delights in making cutesy summer camp references, I thought I'd go with another camp metaphor: climbing a mountain1. We'll start here, with the base camp blog, and then make another every week, or at another interval. I'll take care of this week's administration, and then we can take turns doing the following weeks.

Let's use this site to do our chatting and what not, seeing as CampNano's servers are hopelessly overburdened and will likely continue to be for at least another few days.

1 – And then I realised, too late, that a campy metaphor would have been even better!

Nah, stay ahead of the game. You have to account for major distractions later in the month. I've been ahead by 10k words before and still failed because the middle of the month got too busy for me. At the same time, don't wear yourself out, and give yourself time to brainstorm. Getting 50k words in 30 days is way easier than people think. It's getting a flowing, consistent story out of it that's the real challenge.

Done for the day at 2 041. Gave myself a nice headstart, and had some good fun.

350 words written and still no outline. looooooool

(i actually have a vague idea of what i'm doing though, which is surprising)

There updated my novel. I'm at 2081 and I added a synopsis and used the first chapter as my excerpt.

Finished for today at 3 804 words. Just started the second chapter.

Added Trey Parker and Matt Stone's video on and then vs but/therefore writing. Short but excellent and vital.

Right. I'm out. I'm joining Kilin in 64Masochism.

3000 words is lightweight.
did someone say masochism? i'm in. i have zero words and no idea what i'm doing, so this will be perfect.

i plan to procrastinate and overthink for the first week, AS PER PROTOCOL.

^Added. You can make an account on http://campnanowrimo.org if you want. Maybe give a title and a wordcount goal, if you want. Not really strictly necessary of course, but nice.

okay! i signed up as "myblackaura" since some wannabe took "hel" first. i'm just going for a modest 25,000 to account for my total lack of a plan thus far.

Action? because words are so exciting! no.

Westerns? what is this, Blazing Saddles? no.

Horror? what, am i Lovecraft now? no. "and then it peered at me, with eyes that sank back into its-" no.

Romance? i'm not even going to try and make a joke about this one.

Mystery? will hel ever decide on a genre? tune in next time…?!
