Hurry Up And Viote Already Guys (Sixty Fools Digits)

Posted by Rob on April 2, 2012, 4:26 a.m.

Alright. April Fools has passed and the contest has come to a close.

Here are the entries:

Psychedelic Ostrich Jihad - MMORPGguy

Controls:

Let's see if I can remember the controls… Umm, so, you left click on your units to select them or drag the mouse to make a square thing to select groups of units. Right click to tell them to move somewhere or attack something, and hold A while right clicking for your units to act all aggressive on their way over. Press space to end your turn. Build more units at the top right of the screen, each at a cost of good vibes. You get good vibes every turn depending on the territory you control. Yeah. Oh, and zoom in and out with the mouse wheel and move around the map with the arrow keys or the mouse. I think that's about it.

Low G Manlove Agent - Acid

Description: This is my compo entry. I made it in the last 3 hours.

It's a highly symbolic, minimalist artgame. DEAL WITH IT.

(fixed version)

Nuclear Sewers in the Salad Kingdom - Zac1790

The main story is supposed to involve a nuke that hits the salad kingdom and super-irradiates the sewer. Actually, you're just shooting moldy, talking vegetables with your anti-oxidants.

Use the WASD keys for movement and the mouse to shoot. Unfinished.

Toxic Raccoon Posse - Zhiko

Horrifying Yeti Dreamland - kilin

Controls:

Z - progress dialogue

A/D - move left/right

Mouse - aim

L Click - interact, use weapon

Space - jump

Disclaimer:

I couldn't really get into the game so I lost motivation several times. It's pretty much a little stage and a boss. There were originally ten items and ten buffs, but right now only three items and three buffs made it into the game.

Sixty fools digits reviews, in the order I played them:

Low g manlove agent

Hmm, not sure about this one, It could be good, but I didn’t get very far, I did not like the character physics in it, especially how you bounce off objects seemingly faster than you first hit them. Having the character stop would have been better. There were some collision bugs, and I teleported through things a few times. Lack of sound was also a little boring. However, I did like the character sprite (pretty much the only one I saw) and the tiles.

Sorry acid, I didn’t really like this one from all I have seen. 5/10

Toxic racoon posse

I’m gonna give this one a similar review to low g manlove agent, I didn’t like the character physics, the variable jumping was too sharp when you let go of the jump key. I liked the animations, sprites and backgrounds, but it all seemed very samey. I liked the way the bullets split up, but there could have been some visual distinction between the different types of enemies. Oh, and they all stayed still. While having some stationary enemies is a good idea (turrets etc), it feels much better to have at least a few enemies who move around, even if it is just pacing back and forth.

6/10

Nuclear sewer in the salad kingdom

Ok, this one made me rofl, the jumping salad was pretty cool, but the sounds (although funny at first) got annoying. There were some problems with depth, and it was a little too easy.

Hmm, is there only one level?

5/10

Search for the transvestite dungeon

Ah, now this one I like.

The sprites and tiles (although the character sprite had different resolution to the rest of the game, but I will overlook that) were awesome.

The randomly generated dungeons, although completely empty, were well done.

Unfinished but good. 7/10

Horrifying yeti dreamland

This one was cool, I liked the intro, the menu was a little fiddly, but it works. Killing snowmen takes too long with the beachball, I had to stand inside them and spam click. Even then it took a while. The first boss is nice, but I got an error while fighting him:

ERROR in

action number 1

of Step Event

for object obj_inventory:

Error in code at line 47:

tooltip[0]=buffID[global.buff[tooltipID],0];

^

at position 35: Unknown variable buff or array index out of bounds

I just can’t beat that boss, so this review ends here

8/10 because this one was more complete than the rest so far

Psychedelic ostrich jihad

To the tune of starwars, made me rofl, then it made me roflmao even more when I relaunched the game

The intro made me rofl, but I rofl’d even more when I started it up to get this to the tune of starwars:

ERROR in

action number 1

of Draw Event

for object province:

Error in code at line 38:

if name!=string("Mecca")

^

at position 11: Cannot compare arguments.

pretty good overall, took me a while to figure out how to buy units.

8/10

And finally,

Stylish cricket smashdown

Not sure I should give this one a serious rating…

I beat it though. So it is the only one of all of these games I can say that for.

Doing these reviews made me realise just how picky I am with platformer physics, which probably explains why I find it so hard to get further than basic engine stuff in my games.

Zac1790 12 years ago

@alert The setup file just installs XNA redistributable stuff. The game itself is labelled SFTDOTT

Rez 12 years ago

@Moikle: I don't think you're being picky. I think the two platformers here either were too floaty or too heavy feeling.

Was this an actual error message or did the scrolling text say this somehow?

Acid 12 years ago

Well, I actually started with the stuff tuned down so that it was actually playable… but that would make my game last about 30 seconds rather than 5 minutes.

Also, you actually bounce with HALF of the speed.

But yeah… I made this game in 3 hours, it's definitely not worth much. :P
