I've been using Game Maker far longer than I've been a part of the 'generalized' Game Maker community. Mark's website was NOT user friendly. I've probably been using Game Maker since 2005, although I could not guarantee this (it's not like I wrote down the day I downloaded it!)
This stems from the fact that I hadn't discovered the internet as a discussion tool until my early teens. Mind you, I was a noob (and perhaps I still am! :P) when I joined the GMC (after stalking the place for 6 or so months). Regardless, the YoYo acquisition happened some time after, so I couldn't 'grow up' as a member and hear of 64digits… by the time I started finishing (horrendous) stuff, YoYo Games was in full swing. For my generation of Game Makers, there was never any need for sites like 64digits. If you wanted to upload something, you went to YoYo Games (at least for the lazier people like me). Then, apparently (I cannot be sure about this), 64digits went through bad times? Or something. Thus, I skipped on 64digits.Today, after digging around for GM related stuff, I stumbled on the site, and the personal blogs of a bunch of members that have been… influential to the Game Maker Community at large. Needless to say, I was intrigued! Therefore, I opened up an account. I prolly won't use it much, but, heh, here I am.
Hai!
Welcome to 64Digits! Please leave your sanity in the red box by the door, don't feed ChIkEn, submit to the mind altering code, and all hail potfrog! How I remember that intro still I'll never know…Nice to know that we still get some new traffic around here from the 'ol gmc. As everyone has probably made it clear we generally keep games and programming the main topic but we stray from time to time; we're pretty 'lax round here. I hope you stick around :DWelcome to 64Digits! May your good fortune be as large as melee-master, and may your troubles be as few and far between as canadonian's logins!
Darn, everyone already got the parts that I remember…
Anyway, if I recall, I started using Game Maker in 2006. I never really went to the GMC, though. GMG was my first GM site, followed by MCG, (Now Reflect Games) and later 64Digits. The Yoyo acquisition didn't really change much for me. Feedback on Yoyo was usually worthless, and getting your game noticed on that site was very difficult. I never really saw a use for it other than as another mirror for my games. Once they introduced instant play, that use went out the window as well.Welcome to 64D, by the way.Welcome. And please be aware that once you'll join, more than likely it'll soon be five years later.
I remember my first GM website was GMS. Anyone remember that site? I was a total noob there and had about 4 accounts. Then it died and I grew up a bit, and learned how to actually use GM somewhat well.
GMS was awesome. I got 350 downloads on my first game in it's first day.
Then I slowly came to the realization that I had been incredibly lucky and getting to a measly 50 downloads isn't particularly easy.Heh, thanks everybody. :)
I forgot to blog about the emergence of Game Jolt, that place is pretty cool. Regardless, yeah, sounds like this place is different than the GMC. I won't be leaving the GMC anytime soon, however, the place is quite fun… perhaps some of you should give it a second chance? My internet experience by now is quite extensive, and I've come across a lot of 'tough' places. I can take it people. :PHowdy. I've been here since I got into GM.
I first joined the GMS a long time ago, i think in 2005. And then I joined the GMC later in 2005.
I didnt join the 64digits until later because it seemed like a closed community, maybe because of how the blogging system was constructed.Anyways you can talk about whatever you like on here if you want.
