Locked Out (Our Band Update)
Posted on January 15, 2007 at 23:55

Rare Fender blog time. I'm in need of a bit of help. Not coding. If you wanna help with coding, go away.

I think I mentioned before about how i started a band with some friends. It's called Lockout. This isn't a debate over a name. I know from experience how many of you would want to have that changed (really I do lol).

We've had a quite a few jams and we finally got a set time each week and things are going great. We're finally starting to move out of only covers and into out own material. We're planning on winning our high school's Battle of the Bands and our first "gig" I guess might be playing at the 30 Hour Famine fundraiser later on this year.

Mostly just quick updates above. Now, help. I just need a bit of feedback on what little we have recorded. Link'll be down a bit.

Our setlist for the zip:
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Dirty Magic - The Offspring
Gone Away - The Offspring

With Teen spirit, that was probably about our second or third time running through it. We left out the bridge and there was some noodling going on. No singing, except for a bystander in the background that shouldn't be singing. Also way too fast. My solo.

It was the first time we'd played Gone Away that time. We just decided to wing it and record something else after our other guitarist left and this is what we got. No singing and loaded with istakes, I know. Only me on guitar.

And Dirty Magic's our main cover right now. We play it whenever we get together and it's the only song with actual, intentional singing. We're having some serious problem singer wise and just decided to have us all try singing. This is just one of them. I know the singing's bad lol. Me playing the rhythm riff. No solo for me. The guy who does it was "in the moment" and stood up without a guitar strap to try and solo it. Butchered it bad lol.

Play Guitar Hero 2. On 360 if at all possible. But on PS2 I guess if you have to. Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd on Expert, I dare you.

Metaball Water!
Posted on November 05, 2006 at 07:44

I figured out a great way to do water in my renders. Not large amounts, just a little. Here's an example:

It involves using lathe NURBS and splines for the glass, a special glass texture of my own, and a metaball modifier plus particle emitter for the water itself. I apologize for the background setting of the image, but it's 5 in the morning right now and I don't feel like going more in depth.

Trying to think of what else to write.

I have a huge carpet burn from a turf field from my soccer game earlier today. It was the last play by the other team and he knocked me from behind and I stepped funny and slid for like literally 15-20 feet because it was raining so hard. We won 3-0.

Canucks lost 3-2 to Colorado =(
That sucks. Didn't get to see too much of the game though.

End Her

I made a new render. It really sucks and I don't really like it. I do like how the material on the ceiling lights turned out though. And the reflection... But other than that it didn't turn out how I wanted. I was too lazy to make a thumbnail this time so just go here if you wanna see it:

If you've ever read the book Ender's Game, that's the battle room. It's not exactly how I see it mostly because I adapted halfway through designing some normal room and decided to see what would happen. If you haven't read Ender's Game, read it. Freaking great book.

My band isn't moving forward mostly because our bassist hasn't been able to meet with us on sundays so far. That's a problem. Especially if we're going in for Battle of the Bands at the end of this year for our school. Another problem is no member of our group is experienced enough to write a likeable song, so we've just been working on covers. The only one we really have working so far is Dirty Magic by The Offspring.

If you have any suggestions of songs, I'll take a look at them and see if they're worthy of my listening lol. We're more punk/alternative rock (Sum 41, The Offspring, etc.) because one of our members has no diversity. So try and keep it around there if you think of anything.

I plan on spending some money on the Wii when it comes out at a local Rogers Video. Same one melee's probably gonna get his. Then, since I'll be broke, I'm gonna see if I can get some games for Christmas.

Canucks rule.

Global Illumination
Posted on October 31, 2006 at 01:53

First render in a loooooooong time. Especially released here. Don't think too many people are going to be looking at this but I need to post it anyways. Basic helix primitive, spot lighting and some badly done textures on my part. I'm sorry for the bump mapping on the brick wall. It didn't turn out how I wanted it. Kinda like the floor though... First time testing out some more advanced-basic global illumination.

In other news, I'm tired and cold out of my mind. In one day it got actually kinda cold here (cold by my standards). But in one day... I have backwards rollerblade wheels set up for some reason and I'm listening to the Age of Empires II background music which iTunes (yes, iTunes) managed to read off the disc somehow.

Fade to Black.

Ukulele Wannabe

I unknowingly passed 3000 hits (not that that's a lot) during several months of almost complete inactivity... That's pretty cool. I should be inactive more often.

Anyways, I feel like writing about my immediete life somewhere and this is probably the best place to do it. Cinema 4D Release 10's out, I'll see what I can do about getting it. I have the demo and I might start posting some renders again if I get back into it. I'm taking a 3DS Max course in school right now and that's helping out a lot.

My MP3 player is the best piece of crap ever. It's one of those old-school Creative 128mb ones that you just pull apart to reveal the USB. It has I think about three seperate cracks in the screen now and my sister managed to lose the back. It's been working perfectly for just over two years now since I got it (beginning of grade eight) but I'm going for a Zune at first possible opportunity.

I have my 5.1 speakers hooked up to my microphone jack.

Been experimenting in GM again. Have yet to create anything worthwhile.

My English teacher sucks.

And I got this mini-acoustic sixstring guitar from Nashville that is absolutely impossible to tune. There are fifteen frets and it just doesn't make any sense. My friend already broke a string. Whatever, I'll just put it on display.

Ibanez rules.
