.ws domains and GDI
Posted on March 06, 2010 at 19:38

So I've signed up for one of these recently as I was referred from a friend. The company who own the rights to the domains, known as GDI, say that they are the new .com Anyway I watched their introductory video which was the biggest pile of crap ever, showing sports cars, big houses and telling over and over again how it will all be mine. Anyway I signed up since they offer a free 7 day trial and I didn't see the harm in looking into it.

Now I've learned more about this GDI company, I realised that offering you a .ws domain was just a way to get you interested and now they will do everything they can to get you to take part in their network marketing (aka pyramid selling) even if that means sending me 3-4 emails per day and having some American woman call me to thank me for something I haven't even properly signed up for yet.

However this is legitimate but only works for people who can advertise it to a large number of people, which I would be able to do once I have sorted out paid advertising for my sites. Anyway legitimate or not I still don't think I want to have anything to do with GDI or their products due to their awful marketing strategies. Half the emails they send are claiming to be from my friend who referred me when actually they're not at all. But what really did it for me was the email that I got from my friends dad stating that he had supposedly been referred to GDI through his son. Well that was obviously a fake since they just made up a name for him and I know for a fact that he didn't refer his dad at all. Also a little thing I observed from the email was that it spelt my surname missing out a letter. How desperate is that to try and convince me that it's not an automated email?

So I will be cancelling my account before the 7 day trial is up which is a shame since this could have been a good opportunity if it wasn't for me worrying about all the people that might be sent emails from GDI pretending to be me.

Anyone else had experiences with GDI then?

Making money from teh interwebs!
Posted on February 22, 2010 at 16:47

Hey 64D,

So I've been spending all week researching into making money from websites. Now this is something that usually if people really work at then they can make a little bit of extra cash if their lucky. But I don't care about that, I'm looking to make serious money from this internet thing. Yes I know what you're thinking and no I don't believe in get rich quick schemes or that paid surveys crap. However through good ideas, good advertising, good web designing and good SEO skills a decent amount of money can be made. No not millions but making a living is off the internet is very much a reality.

I don't know if any of you have ever heard of Mochi Ads but I signed up recently. Basically it allows for game developers to make money from putting ads in their game but people also get money for putting peoples games on their site. So recently I've been setting up games on 2 of my sites using this system and I have to say it is the best CPM ads system I've come across. It isn't one of those where your site has to have a massive amount of traffic before they accept you. Only downside is it doesn't pay great so you do really need a lot of attention before you make decent money from it.

Also as you might know from my last blog I have been setting up the Bidvertiser ads on my site. Now that is making me about £4.20 per week so I'm not doing so badly on that one but I still could do with more clicks =P

Another interesting opportunity I came across was placing offers on your site that when completed by others would pay you. So why would anyone complete an offer that is going to get me money? Well you have to offer incentives such as a points system (like the one on so users get points, you get money and everyone's happy =D The best one of these seems to be Boulevard Media but you can only apply to them if you are a registered business.

Finally you could offer something like a premium account service where by paying lets say.. £2 a month users get access to whole range of extra features. Now this is what will make you the greatest amount of money per person but then again it's the most difficult to get people to participate in since they are using their own money.

So... yeh, that concludes my research. So my main purpose of all this is due to the fact that I am going to see somebody next week about setting up an internet based business and there are lots of organisations around here that can help me with business plans, funding and all the rest of it. I have also been speaking to a guy who is willing to let me advertise with a banner at the top of his site for £500 per month and his site gets 4 million hits a month so I should have no problem driving traffic towards my sites. So that is how I plan to make a living since well... I need money to live ;)

Btw if you guys have some better ideas than the ones I've talked about please feel free to comment them!

FireflyX: Back after 2 years!!!!
Posted on January 27, 2010 at 14:20

Why hello there 64digits, long time no see.

For those who don't know I left this site exactly 2 years ago to this very date and stated that I would not be returning. So why have I come back now you ask? Because some of you guys are fucking great!! I don't have a particularly high opinion of this community as a whole but I could pick some members out who are pretty exceptional people:

Nathan: One of the best friends I made from this site. He always puts up my shit and all I can say is sorry I haven't finished your site yet.

Serprex: We don't get much oppertunity to speak these days but you are quite possibly one of the most hilarious people I have ever met... and you don't even
mean to be funny =P

RetroX: Another one of those people who I just don't seem to get the time to talk to these days but this guy was always there to lend a helping hand... not that I ever accept help from others.

George: Haha this guy never gave up on me or staticfire when everyone else started to think I was useless and lazy. Don't worry i'll finish SF someday and there will be a mod position for you if you want it ;)

Chris: Another one who didn't lose faith in me all this time I was doing very little. You should make a site again like CPSGames sometime.

There's loads of other awesome people here but those are just the ones I thought of off the top my head.

So then.. what exactly have I been doing all this time. Well I was in my second year of college last time I was on this site but about 3 months later I pretty much got kicked off the course (not that I care, it was bullshit anyway).

About the same time I took a job at KFC which got me a bit of money but I couldn't cope with the stress of working in that sort of busy environment and I kept getting into trouble for under cooking food and whatnot. Only reason I did that stupid job was because I thought I had met the girl of my dreams but that turned into a total disaster when I found out she didn't appreciate turning round to see me covered in blood because I had just cut her name across myself with a 4 inch blade: OUCH! I was putting cream on it though so the scar is just about gone now. So anyway I get fired from work and the next day the police come round and I just managed to get away with charges for harassment, threatening behaviour and carrying a weapon in the workplace since I've never been in trouble before.

So no more job, no more college, going nowhere in life... next thing I'm in hospital for overdosing on painkillers which for some reason my parents are surprised about even though it should be pretty obvious that somebody in my situation would rather not live any more.

I then decided to stop trying to kill myself and maybe make things better. I started by writing a letter of my feelings to the girl who I lost my job because of and sending it to her house along with a stupid box of chocolates and shitty flowers (yeh I know, I'm not usually this pathetic) but as soon as it arrives I get a phone call from her family and apparently I'm a stalker and the police will be informed. So I start thinking oh well I guess I'm definitely going to jail now. I would rather die so off I went to the nearest bridge and got ready to throw myself off but I just found it so difficult to let go of the railing so eventually the police managed to get me down ad they told me they were taking me home but as I got out of the police van something didn't feel right... like the fact that I could have sworn I don't live in a secure mental hospital.

So after the months spent in misery with nothing to do but sleep and look forward to the food window being opened I finally had my freedom back and I was feeling a lot better. Only problem now was the fact that my parents didn't want me back in the house so I got put in some crappy hostel where I barely had enough money to feed myself. I spent 3 months in there until they threw me out because they claim I'm rude to the staff who run it.

Now my parents have taken me back in and things seem to be slowly getting back to normal. I have resumed my website work and maybe staticfire will be along sometime but I think I got a dam good reason for not working on it.

Well thanks for reading my first blog in 2 years, I've sure missed 64digits despite all the things it has wrong with it :)

P.S who took a dump under my badges? XD

From Firefly: I am leaving forever
Posted on January 27, 2008 at 14:20

Ah it has been a great community where i've made some great friends but *sigh* tis crashing and burning and theres only one thing i have to say: LOL Never in my life have i seen a site so badly run before i'm not suprised it's going boom! Anyway i am doing some finishing off on ready to release it in a couple of days. It is a community very similar to 64digits so i'd like to see some of you there because i am leaving this site and will miss a lot of you :'(

yeh yeh short blog but if that's the worst problem the staff face today they should count themselves lucky XD

I live :(
Posted on January 21, 2008 at 19:27

So i said i was going to die if my last blog didn't get 40 comments and btw i wasn't taking the piss i actually would kill myself if it didn't get 40 comments because i suck :p

Anyway best stay alive so i can finish my projects. For those who either don't know or don't care i have 2 major projects at the moment, one being my site which i have just started working on again after having a weeks break from it. I have just finished the new login system using cookies because for some weird reason sessions kill my server <_< I was thinking about posting a screenshot but it looks too empty with no games and empty recent blog and recent form topic lists. Ok so if anyones interested here's all the features i've done so far and there will hopefully be more to come:

-User pages
-User blogs
-Project submision
-Private messages
-File manager
-Friends lists

I also have the worlds best active user list :D Well i may be exagerating but it's pretty awesome. If you didn't read about it in one of my previous blogs it updates without you having to reload the page like you would on this site. Anyway my goal of having at least everything 64digits has is just about complete except there are a few minor things i didn't include such as game tracking which i personally find pointless. Don't even ask when i'm releasing it because i have no idea.

Besides my site the other project i have at the moment is my command and conquer style rts which is the most complex game i've ever attempted in GM yet it seems to be progressing smoothly. It's the spriting that's taking the most time because not only do i have to draw the base buildings but i also have to do the build sequence too which is on average taking me 4 hours per building. Maybe i'll post a screenshot too who knows. Oh and come on I need names for it.. Jaxx shut up don't you dare post that name suggestion "FFXs RTS" sounds so lame. Sensible name please.

Well thanks for reading and it's good (sort of) to still be alive.

Hi i'm new here
Posted on January 19, 2008 at 20:04

...... is what my blog title would most likely be if i were new here :p But i'm not so shut up. Anyway hello 64digits it has been a while since i wrote a blog for you to read but i was deciding whether i should continue blogging or not here because i have been very upset by the lack of comments on my blogs recently. Yes i was considering throwing myself out in front of a train yesterday because of the lack of comments my 64d blogs were recieving. So if you want to save my life then just post a comment on this blog. If this blog reaches 40 comments by the next time i blog then i will be happy again but if it doesn't i will die.

Ok yes i tend to blog complete crap when i can't think of anything but meh nothing interesting ever happens to me :( Except my grandparents visited today and decided to have a go on the wii. Now these are 2 people who have just learned how to change channels on the TV and they're playing on a wii now so as you can imagine it was quite funny. What was rather funny was the fact that my grandmother asked about 3 times what the console was called, we even spelled it out for her and then my brother comes in the room and asks if we're nearly done on the wii and my grandmother says "what's a wii?" so we tried to explain how it was the console she'd spent the last hour playing on and that she had already been told 3 times what it was. She has alzheimers which is quite sad but can be very funny sometimes like when she bought a house and forgot where it was. Anyway my grandparents like playing on the wii and they said they are going to get one. I very rarely get a chance to play on it because my brother spends quite a lot of the day on it and my dad has a resident evil 4 obsession >_> but it is an excellent console, better than xbox 360 and ps3 by far.

hmm... haven't worked on it for over a week now even though i really should since i said i was releasing it by christmas which is over a month ago now but everyone who knows me will tell you i never get anything done. I keep saying to myself "i'll do it later" then just don't get round to it. It's not just my site but also the fact that i haven't finished a game since september 2006. I only ever get programs done at college because i fail the course if i don't but seriously i need some motivation to finish my projects that i do in my free time as well as the ones at college. I'll most likely get the website done that we have to make at college before i get staticfire finished just because of the strict deadline.

RTS (name needed?)

Yeh i still can't think of a name and the only suggestions i've had were stupid like "conquer and command" or "FFX RTS" so rts names anyone? Also i recieved 2 sets of voices for the units done by Ferret Co and Abacus. I'll let people judge those once i get TGs voices which he has been saying he'll do for ages but i can't complain since i've been saying i'll sprite lasors for blue213 for months and it has been yet another thing i haven't got round to doing. Anyway i am determined to finish this rts since it progressing so well but untill i do so my site will have to be second priority i'm afraid :(

Anyhow thanks for reading.
Oh and 40 comments or i dies :'(

Voice Needed for rts game!
Posted on January 06, 2008 at 18:15

Hello I am in need of somebody americans voice (or perhaps canadian). Yes I would try and do it myself but i sound really dumb when i try to do an american accent. This is for an rts game i'm making. You can read all about it 2 blogs down. The reason i need this is because everything in the game is going to be original. I am doing the spriting and programming, my brother is doing the music and i just need some voices now. If you are interested then please choose one of these phrases and record yourself saying it:

Upon selection

-Orders, sir
-Awaiting instructions
-Unit ready

-Moving to positon
-Coordinates set
-On the move

-Remember me
-Unit down

If i think your voice is suitable then i will ask you to do all 9 of those phrases. Oh and credit will be given of course.

-Thanks for your time

V3 preview!!

Oh look what do we have here.. a 64digits V3 preview

Random stuff/ RTS project
Posted on January 03, 2008 at 18:58

Hello i'm back did you all miss me? No? Oh well nevermind. I was just having what i call an internet break. I have a couple each year and during that break i will not use the internet for any longer than an hour each day. Why do i do this? I have no freakin idea. It usually tends to happen when i've been doing a lot of my website and then i just get bored with it. My site was supposed to be released christmas eve but.. meh. I am proud to say that it now does just about everything 64digits does which was my primary target: Make a 64digits :p don't know when it'll be finished so don't ask me. I am working on a chatroom at the moment which, for the benefit of those few people who have the link, can't yet be accessed from the site.

Also something I started working on during my internet break was a command and conquer style rts. I have just about mastered rts movement. If you have ever played a command and conquer game before then you probably know that you have to draw a box to select your units then click a spot and the selected units will move there.Well it took me nearly 2 days but i managed it:

I'm also doing all the sprites for the game myself and my brothers doing the music to make it original. But that means that i can't call it command and conquer. Anyone think of a good rts name?

As for the base i've done the power plant and the construction yard so far. They do animate but i couldn't be bothered making gifs:

And you can also take over civilian buildings like in red alert 2:

The spriting is taking more time than the coding at the moment since not only do i have to do the buildings but do destroy sequences and build sequences for the base buildings... but it is coming along nicely. Like my site i have no idea when i'll be releasing it by >_> but i hope it won't be too long.

p.s Which mother fucker removed me from their favorite user list >:( Mystery solved, twas Basil

Yet another christmas blog
Posted on December 25, 2007 at 12:49

It's christmas yay! I wish i was still 6, the age when i still thought there might be a santa but after 17 christmases it isn't that exciting anymore :( But still it's better than most days so YAY!

Anyways what did i get:
-Nintendo Wii
-Enough chocolate to make me sick
-Web design book
-Mini bowling alley
-£110 in cash

I asked my parents for a car so they thought they'd be funny and buy me a car keyring. I was opening it and they were like "You said you wanted a car" so there's me thinking OMG it must be a car key.. No i was a freakin keyring!! Then my brother thought he'd also be funny and buy me a chocolate car. Yeh it's so nice to have a family who take the piss out of me <_<

Christmas dinner was good. It's probably the one delicious meal my mum makes a year becaus well.. she can't cook very well but she always takes care over christmas dinner spending 4 hours on it today. I ate a lot but with me being on steriods i always want more food XD

Oh and stop pestering about my site it gets done when it's done I was too ill to work on it for a couple of days and then i wastoo busy christmas shopping. It is looking good though, does everything 64digits does and my active users list is awesome (see last blog).

Well i might go play with my wii, Merry christmas to all!
Edit: Nevermind my dad won't get off it >:(

Oh and fsx says merry christmas too :p
