Is there anybody out there?
Posted on December 23, 2009 at 03:34

Just doing a head count...
This place feels a bit like it has been hit by a blockbuster disaster and there's just a few people walking around looking for lost relatives....

So who's actually out there?
Freddy McFredrickson? Pandaroo_Fang? HOly crap, who remembers Pandaroo_Fang? Did anybody NOT hit on her? She was hawt. Melee-Master? FSX? *sigh*

Oh well, Game Maker 8 is out now with a schmexy new logo (thank goodness Sandy listened to the overwhelming response of the first logo candidate, I hope the original logo designer didn't kill himself), so I'm enjoying that. I hope you can call that activity.

Oh crap, gotta go to the pool. Merry Christmas if I don't get to speak to you before then.

WTF (RhysAndrews)
Posted on December 20, 2009 at 05:20

Well, shaith.
I haven't touched this site since June 10th, 2008. Well to be fair, I *tried* to touch it but 99% of the time, you guys were doing some sort of server move or suffering some sort of hack-attack. Looks like things are *working* once more.

I must admit, this place feels pretty baron now that it's fairly defunct. It reminds me of Good Burger - the big guns come in (YoYo Games / Mondo Burger) and offer bigger services (burgers, game publishing). The only difference here is, Good Burger was a shit movie with a boring storyline.

How am I? Glad I asked myself.
I am doing really well. I finished school in 2008, around September. I LAN'd like there was no tomorrow (even though most lan parties continued into tomorrow) and suffered a few personal issues, before having a job thrown in front of my face to distract me from those issues - a bit like distracting a fat guy with a sausage.

I now work full-time at a private school, as the "IT Maintenance Douche" as some like to call me. After all my years of hating Apple, I never knew I'd be managing a school with 95% Mac and 5% PC. And admittedly, they ARE much easier to manage than a PC network.

And what of game design, I ask myself?
I'm still passionate for creating games, I just have no freakin' time. I miss my days and nights of acting professional with GameCave, and later my own solo projects (or collaborations). I still have a fanbase for Caveman Craig, and I'm still (very surprisingly) getting daily sales of CC: SE - with a seemingly large anticipation for Caveman Craig 2's release.

Tim and I are still planning to complete Caveman Craig 2, I am just waiting for Game Maker 8 (PNG support, sweet mother) and a bit of juicy motivation.

I've also been doing bits and pieces on a zombie game (any developer has to do it) called "Oh No More Zombies!" (Lemmings reference). It's a basic wave-based survival zombie game, like any other. Buy weapons, look at gore, rofl at the lack of intelligence the zombies have... y'know, nothing new.

Beyond that, my main focus is getting my driver's license, working on maturity (not that it's a problem, but there's nothing wrong with trying to mature more.. . . ), and just consolidating my future. Appopriately titled by 64Digits, I am an "Old bean". =(

RA - New Project
Posted on June 10, 2008 at 03:29

Hi guys.
Just to let you know, I've started working on a new solo project. It's based heavily on my Extension 2 English Major Work, which is lightly based on Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World".

I'm not so sure about what the game will turn out like, it may be a simple platformer or it may become a bit more of a thinking-puzzle sorta game like the Chzo Mythos series. However, it's my attempt at doing my own graphics and animation, as well as level design (blegh).

The idea is, you're a guy named Hope, who is in a society that you hate and you rebel against the society and escape, and find yourself in a natural sort of world.

Not-very-famous Australian comedian named Steve Hughes. Not usually a fan of offensive comedy because most comedians just get on and say something about vaginas and everybody laughs... this guy is actually really clever though.

So yeah, warning, there's a bit of sexual references and language in there.

RA - Chiken, noob pt 2
Posted on March 16, 2008 at 01:23

All in all, guys,
I respect your opinion on this matter, and I understand and agree I've been fairly sensitive and over-reactive publicly about it all.

It's not in my interests to take "legal action" against Chiken, particularly because it's simply not worth it. However, I wanted to make it clear that I have that level of authority, and to go against Chiken's arguments. Aside from this, I simply took a lot of offence in Chiken's actions and words and needed to ensure he understood my thoughts and feelings on this. I am still very strongly against Chiken's motives, as he has taken CO on as a project by himself, without the support, credit, or permission of the original creators.

Though it's in my best interests to have CO finally working online, I don't feel that Chiken has that right to do so after his actions and breach of agreement, nor do I feel he will develop the game to the standard I would wish it to have been developed.

RA - Chiken, noob.

(read my second part if you like, just go to my user page)

Hi everybody.
I haven't touched 64-Digits in a while, just haven't really bothered. Heck, I still have all the GameCave gear for my avatar / banner etc.

There's not much new... I'm working a little bit GM-wise but not much... just finishing up Conflict: Arcade, planning another project, may also be writing a third GameCave Console (but won't be calling it that).

Some of you might've played Chiken's early *ONLINE* demo of Conflict: Online. I need to assure you that the game won't be going ahead, I'm sorry that Chiken brought your hopes up, if they by any chance did. It was a breach of our agreement for him to release a demo that early or even release info of the project going ahead to anybody outside a small circle. I'm sick of him not listening to me or following simple instructions so I'm just not going to let him continue work on it now. I still don't think he gets the point, he's just too narrow-minded.

He publicly posted this text document as a response to an email I sent him:
http://willhostforfood.com/users/ChIkEn/Lolnoob.txt

In response... The bugginess of the game is still something I stand by but it has nothing to do with whether you are able to continue work on it or not. You STILL BROKE THE AGREEMENT.

The work of the members is protected by the copyright laws of their own country. I've looked at the info for both US and Australian copyright infringement laws, and they both state that as soon as my work becomes material, it is protected. All information for the related laws here: http://www.copyright.org.au/information/specialinterest/faq/G050.pdf

I quote from the aforementioned document:
"A person infringes copyright if they deal with protected material in one of the ways exclusively controlled by the copyright owner( s ) without permission. For computer programs, the uses which require permission include making a reproduction and making an "adaptation" (such as an object code version of a program in source code). If the computer program has been made commercially available, the relevant licensing agreement may set out what permissions the copyright owner has given in relation to the way that program and any accompanying material (Such as text or graphics, including typeface designs) is used."

In other words, although I gave you (informal) permission to make an adaptation, it was through an agreement. If you accuse me that the agreement was not a formal contract, I can just accuse you that the permission was not a formal contract either, which is included in the agreement anyway.

In quote from the US Copyright Office:
"When is my work protected?
Your work is under copyright protection the moment it is created and fixed in a tangible form that it is perceptible either directly or with the aid of a machine or device. "

I also quote from the Conflict: Arcade License:
"Conflict: Arcade and all files in the package are Copyright © 2005-2008 all respected owners. All rights are reserved by Australian Copyright Laws."

"No resources (soundtrack, graphics, concepts, etc) may be used without permission and approval by the resources' respected owners, through contact with Rhys Andrews.

At any point, the respected owners may withdraw a previously made agreement, approval, or permit."

I'm able to bring quotes from the official offices here to support my argument, I'm still waiting for Chiken's reasoning for his statement. I do not need to have filing papers for legal rights to C:A - it is not a registered copyright. It doesn't NEED to be. The name isn't copyrighted, it's the source, the graphics, and so on.

Chiken if you're really confident on your points talk to me privately instead of showing off how much of a dick you really are online. Everybody knows who created this game. You can't seriously call "Grabbing somebody elses game and adding a few bits to it" legal - this stuff is all OVER the GMC and YoYo Games... you can't steal other peoples' work!

RA - Muse
Posted on September 11, 2007 at 08:34

It was a meer month ago I go into Muse... and tonight I decided to buy me, my girlfriend, and a good friend of mine (and my girlfriends...) tickets to see them live.

I'm REALLY excited. I can't call myself a Muse fan yet, i only own 2 of their 4 albums, and it's more of a time issue. Give it another month and I can call myself a Muse fan... but man... they rock. They have a very unique sound - mix between classical, psychedelic/progressive rock, and a tiny bit of emo punk (eh, no band is perfect). They just.. aaah, REALLY good.

You can also listen to all their songs on their website. I recommend:

- Micro Cuts (Album 'Origin of Symmetry')
- Plug in Baby (Album 'Origin of Symmetry')
- New Born (Album 'Origin of Symmetry')
- Falling Away with You (Album 'Absolution')
- Take A Bow (Album 'Black Holes & Revelations')
- Assassin (Album 'Black Holes & Revelations')
- Hoodoo (Album 'Black Holes & Revelations')
- Knights of Cydonia (Album 'Black Holes & Revelations')
- Exo-Politics (Album 'Black Holes & Revelations')
- City of Delusion (Album 'Black Holes & Revelations')

RA - Idiots.

The following PDF is a conversation i had with a peer at my college. I wouldn't call him a noob, he just sucks. He would insult me, and when I make a comeback he'd be like "Dude have a cry i was just joking"... but I know he was joking, I was just making a comeback.

Anyway. I got fed up with him and here you are:

RA - Grease Pod
Posted on August 30, 2007 at 17:27

Grease Pod - a candidate for my bands name.. what do you think? It makes no sense, I know, but it has a nice hook to it.

Just came back from our weekly jamming, was a ton of fun! I wrote a song during the week - just one of those basic blues riffs (sounds alot like Heartbreak Hotel), but with a lil solo and OH MY GOODNESS... the vocalist in my band finally decided to open his mouth and sing, he ROCKS. Sheesh, I feel insignificant working with 2 amazing musicians such as my drummer (who can really rip out an awesome drum solo) and my vocalist/bassist, who is just coooool. He grabbed my lyrics tonight, went outside, and came back singing the melody that I gave him only spiced up like a blues song should be.

We're planning to record some pieces in the next few weeks. At first, just with my church's basic soundboard & PA... and then, I'll be visiting a proper, professional recording studio after we write some more stuff and further polish our works, and we'll get some sick songs up. *YEAAAH*

Not only will we be recordin' the blues song I wrote, but an acoustic "house of the rising sun" (with me singin' and playing guitar), a call & response bass and drum jam session, blues jamming, and a Prog-Rock/Blues Rush-style song we composed earlier (currently called "The Grease Jam")... Gaah, so excited.

S'lata guys
-Rhys
