Flash Player Oddities

Posted by anthonyloprimo on June 27, 2010, 1:10 a.m.

So I'm on YouTube the other day and suddenly… ZOMBIES! THOUSANDS OF THEM!

…Well, no, no zombies.. But, it randomly acted weird, locking me out where I couldn't access anything until after the video was done, when it auto-closed on me and returned to the actual video page.

The next day I'm using it, and other oddities happen - random times it's not working right (not just this but any flash-based program) and then I get some "overlay" over the flash area saying that it supposedly crashed.

I then start watching videos on YT another time, and it does the same full screen lock oddity, only it crashes shortly after, making the screen blank for a while.

Then I use this handy and dandy tablet PC… only I start noticing it crashing.

I start noticing this on different browsers and other computers as well.

Did Adobe get smart and stick some anti-crash thing so when Flash crashes, it doesn't take the browser with it? Or is this some random new thing?

With these recent problems with using flash, I ALMOST agree with Steve Jobs and his choice on not including flash on the iPod/iPhone/iPad. …ALMOST.

Flash is just weird sometimes, to be honest I don't know what's going on with your flash.

What I find most odd about adobe is how every time I use acrobat reader it has to update. Why does it need to update so often? All it does is look at image versions of text.

If you're using Chrome, only that tab goes down and not all of them.

flash only crashes for me if i open a ton of vids in multiple tabs :P on my netbook. on my main comp it only does that if I ready up hd vids in many more tabs

In fact, if you're using Chrome, you can just kill Flash and nothing will go down with it.

@ a few people

No, chrome's tabs haven't crashed since I installed it on one of the laptops (I know about that neat feature).

Also, on one laptop, I use firefox.

It's just that suddenly something appears over the flash area, saying it crashed. I was just wondering if anyone knows about that stuff.
